First of all let me just say sorry..
ok that done i will explain a little about what i have achieved before and where im at
ive softmodded an old RRODing Xbox before using the maddcatz/action replay memory card hack and splinter cell
(used a RROD xbox thinkin well if i mess up it was dodgy anyway)
but i couldnt get it to talk to my computer
I now have a fully functioning XB and want to set it up as a media centre
its completely retail speck so its virginity is there for the taking huh huh huh
the way i wish to connect is using 2 NIC's 1 for XB 1 for net use
i understand i need to update my dash but im unable to set up live via my xbox (it fails at getting online fails the DNS test )
so my question
is there a very easy (read technotard) guide to setting up live using my PC set up
i have my net set to a static IP as i use torrents and i set that up using the port forward website
im just rambling now as im unsure what you would need to know
but im more then happy to fill in any information you want
as i said at the top sorry
thanks for your time

Whats up man, lets see if we can get you on track and running here.
Your post is a bit all over the place so i got to ask are you soft modded or stock?
You dont need xbox live to update the MS dash just a game like Halo 2 or any game that has live ability.
When running from xbox to router you can use an Ethernet cable or a crossover cable but for xbox to PC you need to use a crossover cable and make sure you PC is set to share the Internet connection.
Hope that helps a bit and if not ask away bro, its what we are here for.

right sorry
im am all over the place i know
i will try to make myself clear
as of now im stock
i will be using a softmod with splinter cell
then will be using AID 4.3 to add XBMC
my main issue is getting to point where i have my live account set up
so i can dual boot original dash and the XBMC dash
the only way im able to connect my xbox to the net is by using ICS
i have 2 NICs so i should be able
Modem>Nic1 -PC- Nic2>xbox (via Xcable)
the problem that i can see is after reading shed loads of info
the general consensus seems to be that i have to set up my network cards to auto get IP addresses
this is an issue as i have set up a static ip for my torrents
i 100% have to get online via xbox in no small part because i want
the weather app and imdb info working
thanks for takin the time to read this

Once you get XBMC running you can use its IP setting options to get on line, there is no need to get on live from the MS dash.
