Chimp 2.4 is on the AID disk in the Apps section, you just install that to your HDD and your good to go.

I have finally collected all the tools I need to do a soft mod. I was wondering, however, if it is possible to clone a virgin Xbox HD to a larger HD (250GB) using XBOX HDM? I want to keep my original HD unmodded just in case. I was hoping to clone the XBOX original HD to the larger one, then install the larger one in the XBOX then mod it.
I know that I can FTP and transfer files from my XBOX and build an ISO and then build a new XBOX HD from scratch using XBOX HDM, but I was wondering if I could just clone the HD. Just seems easier that way. Smile

You can clone the xbox HDD with out moding it but you need an eeprom reader to get the eeprom .bin from the xbox motherboard, with out the eeprom reader you will need to softmod the stock HDD.

I have the eeprom.bin file from the XBOX. I made a backup of the eeprom and copied it to my e\backup folder on my xbox HD. I then copied it to my computer. After I use HDM to clone the HD, what do I do with the eeprom file? What is an eeprom reader?

"i can't get HDM to rebuild the drive,"

Did you put the MS dash files and folders in the HDM C folder and did you put the eeprom bin in the eeprom folder of the HDM App?

Are you getting an error?
Need more info then it wont work bro. Wink

If you have the eeprom then you have already softmodded the xbox so why ask about cloning a virgin xbox?

eeprom is the code the xbox uses to lock the HDD to the motherboard.
An eeprom reader will read the eeprom from the motherboard so you wont need to softmod to get the code.

I loaded up the softmod menu, but did not actually install the softmod. I only went that far to get the IP address and username/password for the xbox. I also did a "backup eeprom to e drive" option which created e\backup folder and dropped a copy of the eeprom file in there. I have not actually softmodded yet.

I actually work in the IT field, so my understanding is that if I clone the virgin HD from my unmodded xbox to the 250GB HD, it should be exactlly the same info in the same sectors etc. It would not, however, recognize the entire HD until it was softmodded. If the eeprom is located on the motherboard, the a clone copy should work, shouldn't it?

I know that regular computers and the XBOX software/hardware setup are different, but it seems like this should work. What do you think?

By the way, I am not trying to argue with you at all. I have read through enough of these forums to know that you (wes213) are as close to an expert on this subject as you can get. I would just think there is less to go wrong with a clone than a build from scratch with FTP'd and burned files is all. But if you tell say it won't work, I won't argue with ya. Smile

Thanks for all your help Wes!

There is no need to clone the drive if its blank or out of the box new you can build HDM with a copy of the MS dash ( found on aid or at X-bins) in the C folder of HDM and put the EEPROM file in the HDM eeprom folder and make the HDM iso, pop that in your PC and build an xbox HDD from scratch then use the lock HDD option of HDM to lock the hdd to your xbox.

Put the HDD you just built in your xbox and soft mod it.

What steps did you use to build the HDM disk and what format did you burn the disk in?

Did you set your PC BIOS to boot from the disk drive instead of the HDD?
