I've used xboxdm and I'm getting an error 5 when I start. Which I see error means HDD not locked. But first off can I install a new HDD without EEPROM. I can't FTP to my XBOX so not sure how to pull my EEPROM off the XBOX. I was running SID 4 softmod but one day my gf tried to play a DVD and now the softmod doesn't work so I figured it's a good time to just upgrade to a bigger HDD. I've gone through the tutorial included in xboxhdm but it doesn't really explain with softmod just a mod chip. Could somebody give me the general gist to get me in the right direction. Thanks!

im 99.9% sure you cant set up a new hd drive without the eeprom for your xbox, i have a softmod with larger hard drive you get the eeprom create the hard drive with xbhdm lock it put it in your xbox and i had to reinstal the softmod beacause as far as im aware when you create, lock then put the hard drive in its completely fresh as if it was an offical xb hard drive so reinstal softmod and bam should be done, if i understand what your saying do you still have the retail hard drive for your xbox? is that working as you could pull the eeprom of that if u dont know about ftpin can offer some help and advice, hope this is helpful!

if your xbox is already softmodded then goto E: BACKUP/EEPROM

pull the EEPROM.BIN

EITHER make a xbhdm cd with no eeprom in the eeprom folder and stick the eeprom on floppy...

or

make a xbhdm disc with you eeprom in it so you have a disc to do more hdd upgrades to your box only later.....

The eeprom is unique to every box.....

NOW inside the hdm program to lock your hdd goto option 3: linux locking tool...it will come up to a dos looking screen and type in

"LOCKHD -a"

it will look on the xbhdm cd first if no eeprom is detected then it will ask to search in another location like the floppy disc.....

I got my old HDD working again. I'm going to try to softmod again. This time I'll try SID 5 since SID 4 I wasn't able to FTP to my XBOX before. I figured I was gonna need the EEPROM but from the tut I was reading on this site it was saying to hot swap which would by pass needing the EEPROM.
