I am going to put an xbox in my bedroom upstairs and my PC is downstairs. I am going to stream films through xbmc and wondered if there was a program/script that would allow me to shutdown my PC through a command on the xbox?
Is there a way i could initialize a bat file on my PC through the xbox?

No and i dont think so.
Even if you find a way to cut the pc off with your xbox (i dont think there is a way) there is no way to send the signel to turn it back on.
I dont think you can use a bat file with the xbox but if your running something like D.S.L. (damn small linux) there might be a way but i cant seem to find it.

Never mind, it don't take that long to ftp a film over anyway, just thought it would be a snazzy thing to do.
Thanks

if i remember correctly there is a windows emulator available for the xbox. You could initiate a shutdown on the pc by using the shutdown.exe, i'll see if i can find more info on the emu. Command syntax is
shutdown -s -m \\computername -f -t 10
use the -f to force open programs to close and the -t 10 is a 10 second timeout. You could put this into a .BAT file or you could use a VBS file to shutdown or shutdown and restart the machine

i would reccomend a psp as an essential bit of kit for remote interfacing, theres a shell replacement called ir shell which can be used as an infra red remote for your xbox, a little program called portable vnc on the psp, and tight vnc on your pc give you the ability to control your pc and see the desktop on its screen, and even having xbmc remote interface so you can control your xbox anywhere in your house, if u dont have wireless even tho they get bad reviews i use a wifi max kit with downloaded drivers and it runs fine with my psp (which i pronounce pisssp) a little of topic, but hey share the knowledge right?

actually, you can turn it back on... i think I saw this button somewhere on one of the dashes, but i'm not sure... It is called wake on LAN... basically when your computer shuts off, the nic card keeps power on it, and if it sees a "magic packet" that is for it's IP, then it will turn on.
