Are you wanting to just install a 80mm fan or install one and do the 12v mod? I'm not sure the specs on the fan I use its size is 80x80x25mm its clear green and got 4 leds in it. You'll also need to remove the metal heat sink in the top of the box so that the box will close all the way w'out havin to cut the fan up to much you'll still need to cut the bottom corners of the fan so it sits in there low enough and isn't puttin pressure on the psu and mobo. you also need to cut the plastic tray the harddrive sits in so that it'll actually fit. I know of a couple good sites to get fans off if you need one.

LOL that is truly is a big fan!

Anyways i got out and got a new fan for mine, dremeled it and put it in, and still the same thing. What i want to is put a new fan in and do the 12V mod to it. I havent tried the 12V mod with this new fan yet, but i will keep you posted. Unfortunately i cant test it today, since i have to work tonight. Maybe i will try it out when i come back home. Im trying to see if it will cool the xbox down if i put it to 100% speed in media center, so ill update you guys today or tomorrow. Hopefully with good news and pics.

Esben

Thats f'd up puttin it in the correct way shoulda fixed it. Don't put it on full blast or your fan will burn out pretty fast about 75% or so should be good. Also I don't think that you're box is really runnin that hot man but I can't remember the conversion for celius to farenheit. I do think thats around where mine was at though when it displayed in celcius.

I thought the 12V mod would automatically put it to full blast all of the time? bypassing the 20% default value? The new one i got has 3 wires as well, but i just left them in there since i dont know what the last one does. So my status right now is that everything should run with normal speed and such. But i will tinker with it tomorrow and hopefully get some good results. Also, i put some tape over the gap between the fan and the hdd case (i initially got carried away with the dremel). It still puzzles me though.

Yeah the 12v does but you said you didn't do it yet w/ this fan. The third wire on it has to do w/ a sensor but I can't remember for waht I think its the one that regulates fan speed but the OG fan doesn't have this wire.

Alright, so ill just leave it in (the 3rd wire)? Yeah, i just wanted to see if i got results with the new fan before i did the mod. I would be happy with with around 30 celsius idle and up to 50 or something when playing games or watching movies. Anyways, ill post pics tomorrow then maybe we can figure out whats wrong. Thanks again for helping me out.

I have my fan blowing into the box...I stay around
Idle = 108 degree Fahrenheit = 42.2222222 degree Celsius
Gaming = 115 degree Fahrenheit = 46.1111111 degree Celsius

( http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperature.htm )

I've also found that alot of the plastic inside is is a waste and restricts airflow.

In addition to doing the fan upgrade I also redid the Heat Sink paste.
I got some Artic Silver 5....

BE CAREFUL AND RUB ALL THE OLD PASTE OF THE PROCESSOR AND HEAT SINK AND PUT A SMALL BEAD OF ARTIC SILVER 5 ONTO THE PROCESSOR AND PUT THE HEAT SINK BACK ON.....

Alright brovas. Sorry for the long wait. I now did the 12V mod, left the xbox on for an hour of so idle and the temp stopped at around 47 celsius. this is wif 100% im pretty sure. I guess it makes sense, when comparing to Montauks monster cooler. If the temp only rises 5-10 degrees when im in-game it should be no problem i guess.

What im wondering now is if its possible to fix the fan speed at 80% or so in the bootup sequence. Do any of you guys know about that? I havent browsed the forums yet so dont go through any troubles looking anything up. I will do it when i get the time.

Thanks for your help so far, you guys rock!

Esben

EDIT: I know the pic is crap, but the cam was weird and now im out of batteries.
