Does anyone know anything about using a pc controller on xbox? If its plug and play would it matter that it dosnt have all the buttons? _________________

I've seen adapters for PS2 controllers->Xbox ports and back, but while small, they could have contained little PCBs to covert incompatible signals between the two controller/console types. On the other hand, both controller types use the USB format; perhaps there is some basic signal standard for USB controllers, in which case any USB controller should do fine if correctly adapted. I rather doubt this, however, considering that you don't see dozens of controller adaptation mods left and right. It's my (extremely uninformed/amateur) opinion that adapting a controller to the xbox would require, in addition to a USB->Xbox (or whatever format you're pulling from) adapter, a program on the box itself to interpret the foreign signals it's recieving from the controller.
Of course, I could just be talking out of my ass...

Minor update: I remembered a homemade USB->Xbox converter I made a while back out of an old duke controller dongle I had hanging around and decided to try plugging my Logitech Dual Action (a Dual Shock 2 wannabe for the PC) into my Xbox and seeing what happened.
Nothing.
The Xbox absolutely refused to recognize that anything at all was plugged into the port. In Halo 2, the game informed me that the controller was unplugged when I tried switching from my usual controller to the Dual Action USB contraption. I know the converter I brewed up isn't crosswired because I made it to help a friend softmod his box and it worked fine for that, so either the controller itself is simply incompatible with my Xbox, or someone out there needs to start writing up some drivers for PC controllers.

Interesting.... I think I may have some extra USB ports. I think I'll give this one a go pretty soon. _________________
