I currently use a version of XBMC included in AID 2.11 (from a build dating from Mid 2005!!!). Anyway as I mostly use my xbox as a media centre is there an easy way to update to the version included in AID 4.01 without affecting any of my settings such a fixed IP, shared folders etc?

make sure you don't overwrite your config file that's all _________________
OK thanks for the reply but how exactly do I do that using AID 4.0? Is it via the one click install?

Ftp your user data folder from your xbox to your pc if you have scripts you use alot ftp your script folder and if you have any skins you like to use other then pm ftp the skin folder to your pc, update the dash then ftp the folders from your pc back in to the xbmc folder on your xbox and you will have all your settings, skins, and scripts still in tact.
I update with the svn builds like once a week and have had no probs doing it this way.
hope this help

Thanks for the tip wes I assume the folder marked UDATA is what you are referring to when you say user data.
Last dumb question when my xbox boots up it has the evox splash screen before going to the XBMC dash - and my XBMC folder is in E:/ as is the evoxdash.xbe so can you confirm the correct procedure is for me to store a copy of my UDATA then use one click install for XBMC onto E:/ then overwrite the new UDATA folder if necessary?

You got it.
But im not talking about the udata folder.
The folder you need to backup is the UserData folder.
The UserData folder is in the XBMC folder.
E:\XBMC\Userdata
thats the folder that keeps all your settings back it up install the new XBMC build and then when you know the new build works replace the UserData folder with the one you saved from the old build.
Hope this clears it up for you if not let me know better to ask 100 times and do it right then ask one time and blow it.
good luck guy

OK thanks the reason why I mentioned UDATA is because I dont have a folder called userdata inside my XBMC folder - perhaps its because the build dates back to mid 2005? What typical file names would be inside the userdata folder?

OK it would seem that in the older versions such as mine these were all stored separately as I have separate folders for all those you mention.
Oh one other thing - my evoxdash.xbe is on c: and the XBMC folder is stored in E:/XBMC not E:/apps/XBMC - so the i\one click install will retain this setup?

OH man thats ruff i really dont know what to say about that one.
If it was me i wold just update and bite the bullit do it on a day you got the time and reset all your settings then you know from thare on its as simple as saveing your UserData file.
sorry i cant help more then that unlees you want to do it the hard way.
Use a non xbmc dash and rename your XBMC file XBMC2.
Lode the new build of xbmc that way you can launch the old build to check all your settings or just move the files you know you need to the new build.
when its all set to your likeing then you can dump the old build.
I dont know any other way to tell you.

When you say rename are you referring to the .xml file stored in c

No man thats my bad i was talking about the XBMC folder rename the folder xbmc2 that will let you put the new build on and keep your old build that way you can look at your settings and old files .
You must use some other dash to rename the XBMC folder in order for it to take effect
When your set up the way you want then you can launch the new build and delete the old build aka the one you named XBMC2.

Or as an alternative back up my existing E: drive using AID?
Oh one other thing - my evoxdash.xbe is on c: /and the XBMC folder is stored in E:/XBMC not E:/apps/XBMC - so will one click install still retain this setup (initially showing the evox splash screen before defaulting to the XBMC dash)?

I cant say that it will save your splash screen for sure but with your old XBMC backed up you can go back later and move the splash screen to the new build.
Just wanting to know whay do you want to keep the screen so bad?

No reason at all actually - just that the evoxdash.xbe is still in c:/ so thought that with the one click install for xbmc it would retain that. I just dont want to run into any non-boot issues lol. Thing is I did the AID2.1 so long ago I cant remember what procedure I used!
Hmm just noticed I have evoxdash.xbe in e:/ too?
