I am patiently waiting to softmod my xbox and I have a few questions before I begin. I have read through the tutorials and everything seems pretty straightforward. After softmodding....can I upgrade the harddrive using a pc running win 98? It is the only box I have that I can put an ide drive in to use the xboxhdm software. My "basic" plan is as follows
Softmod stock xbox
Backup all necessary files/drives from xbox to laptop.
Create linux iso etc
Use win 98 pc to run xboxhdm on new harddrive
Put new bigger drive in xbox.

Also...the hard drive I have is an older Maxtor 80 gig drive. I am not even sure if it is a 7200 rpm drive. If it is only 5400 is it worth trying to use it at all? Any suggestions?

sounds good. thats how i do it. you just have to enter the commands in exact for them to work. also, when you create your iso, leave your tdata and udata folders empty and ftp the stuff over when you're done.

So...since xboxhdm is a command line prog it should work on an older system? Will the new drive's speed be an issue? Sorry for repeating myself btw.
