uhmmm im assuming your talking about connecting to the xbox, but when i was looking through some of the setup menus on my softmod the username and password are xbox and xbox (respectivly, probably default for all things) and i have to use that when ftp'ing so maybe use it with vista?

I think they mean they're browsing from Xbox Media Centre to the PC, thats right isn't it guys?
Anyway, I assume you've tried the run-of-the-mill passwords (such as your Windows login name and pass, Administrator and pass?).
Might also be worth checking to make sure that all users have access to your drives, cos if they don't, you'll get asked for password when you try and connect. Just right click on whatever drive it is you're looking to share, Properties - then sharing tab. Click permissions and grant Full Control to all users. Hopefully this should solve the problem.

Check to make sure that both of the computers have the same workgroup name, otherwise you'll have to authenticate. _________________ ____________________________________

They're going from Xbox to PC, not PC to PC. No need for workgroup settings as the Xbox doesn't have any.

Good luck on that. I have yet to get my videos on my Vista box to be seen by XBMC. My understanding is that Vista has SMB 2.0 built in and it is not backwards compatible with SMB on XBMC. Anyone confirm or deny? _________________ ____________________________________

A lot of the compatability problems with Vista stem from the new IP address ranges it has. Vista uses IPv6, whereas everything else is still on IPv4.
Vista does contain an option to switch back to the old style of IP addressing which should resolve some compatibility issues and help with connectivity. The link gives details on how to revert back to IPv4, if you're having any probs.

first i am talking about my workgroup just incase.
my xbox finds my workgroup, i connect to it, then my pcs name comes up (ex. MYPC-PC) and i select that, and i need a username and pass.
also, i have tried things like admin admin, xbox xbox, my pc user name, etc and all that doesnt work. thanks for all your help though, i really appreciate it.
