tried it, dosnt work, you either need a crossover cable or a router.

usually theres 4 outputs on the router, why don't you run another cat-5, from the xbox to the router, and then run everything on DHCP,

dont bridge the connection then. instead power up your computer then your xbox and change your xbox's ip to the one you have on your computer. for example for me it would be:
Computer: 192.168.2.2
so id change my xbox's ip to :192.168.2.2
you wont be able to use the internet on your pc only your xbox. also you will need to restart your xbox for this to work and if your restart it and on your computer it goes to an error at the bottom in your task bar then u did it right.

there is one alternative, but it will require purchasing some hardware.

First off, does your router have wireless capability? if so i will post you a link of what you will need or something similar to this item.

This is what is needed for wireless. But there are others out there im sure, just look around for something like that. Mayb even try your local game store.
