ok so let me get this straight i get in shit for having a link to msdash in my sig....get told to take it out or else....but yet its all good for a vip member/staff to give out links....
is this the same messed up thought pattern that allows yall to charge to DL a dashboard i brought to the attention of the board....so they could DL it for free...and perhaps enjoy their box as much as i do? _________________

i got beyond the error 4 and now got an error 5, this means my sammy harddrive i tried to use in my xbox is not lockable. i'm having trouble unlocking my retail hd to either rebuild c or totally rebuild the whole thing, the hotswap is not working for me, is there a bruteforce method of unlocking it? or an easier explanation on doing the hotswap thing? i did the turn on pc and hit pause (my wouldn't, kept right on booting the xboxhd disc) removing dvd-rom cable and taking the power lead off, chose option 1 and it aid my hd was locked. i think i followed the instructions to the letter but it just isn't working out! you guys must be banging your heads trying to help me out, i do appreciate it tho, i'm just not getting anywhere.

OK
You should have your Xbox open with your DVD-rom’s ide and power unplugged..YES
And your Computer open with the cd in the drive and HDD’s unplugged
7. Turn on the PC, Before the PC BIOS looks for Hard Drives, hit the Pause/Break key. It should pause at this time.
Then turn on the Xbox when it boot’s up it should have ERROR #11 this means that the Xbox has unlock the HDD but cant find the DVD drive.
9. It will boot to an error code (#11) regarding the DVD-ROM, but the Hard Drive will be unlocked, this way you'll get xboxhdm to access it on first attempt
Now with out turning off the Xbox Unplug the HDD ide cable and plug the ide cable from the Computer that should just be connected to your Mother board…if you are useing two ide's if not it should be MB - DVDdrive - Xbox YES
Then press the pause/break button again…
10. Hit space bar to continue booting the PC. If it takes a long time to boot (several minutes), then the HD has not been unlocked. _________________

well..saying that.. i've just fudged up my hd again. i ran evox as an app, unlocked my hd then i selected to power cycle, my xbox promptly rebooted and gave me an error 5. now i'm guessing the xbox saw an unlocked drive and decided not to play ball. i've managed to secure a copy of xplorer360 which i've used to pull the eeprom.bin (fortunately i was faffing about wiv some stuff and backed myself up a copy). now i'm currently burning another xboxhdm boot disc with said eeprom.bin and hoping i can build a new drive with it using the sammy i tried the other day, the one which CABBOT quite rightly told me i'd not included eeprom for, so sorry to you bud! i wasn't trying to be a know-all! so anyway, i'll let u know if all is well again this time round.

maybe i read that wrong but if you have the eeprom....the drive you just messed up can be rebuilt too....i mean why use the 12gigs if you dont have to....im assuming its bigger than sammy... _________________

cos i can..lol the sammy is 13.7gb (i reported wrong before) whereas the stock drive i think is only an 8gig. i just slightly messed up again, i've put all the files now on the sammy minus the softmod (i wanna do that the fun way ) in xboxhdm's eeprom folder i had my eeprom down as eeprombackup.bin so when the program looked for it it couldn't find it. i've now reburnt the disc with the correct filename of eeprom.bin and will now proceed to lock the sammy..one hopes!!
oh yeah.., since i'm building drive from scratch and is not yet locked i've found it easier to put the drive on pc cos the xbox powers down after so many mins so a lot of swapping around with pc hdd's so i can keep my eye on the forums.
