i have a real problem guys, i've deleted my dashboard and game save by accident by trying to replace the xbmc directory with the xbmc blin bling edition. i thinlk i formatted c: as well. AID 3.1 no longer boots and since the dashboard has gone i can no longer copy back the game save. i think i'm totally fudged!! is my only option now to buy a modchip for my xbox?

See if you can follow this Tut and just ask if you get stuck...
Hotswap Tutorial - Recover a HDD without Eeprom Backup
Hardware Needed:
- A PC (remove all HDD's), blank CD-R/W and A CD Burner - Torx 10 And Torx 20 Screwdrivers - To Open XBOX Software Needed:
- XboxHDM 1.9
- DVDdecryptor (http://www.dvddecrypter.com)
- C drive backup or latest MS dash
IMPORTANT: Make sure the Xbox and PC are close to each other
Steps:
1. If you got a backup of your C you don't need to download latest MS Dash, if you don't have a backup download MS Dash and keep it ready on your PC.
2. Unpack xboxhdm onto your PC.
3. Put the MS Dash in the C folder into the xboxhdmlinux folder and overwrite the ones already there.
4. In the root of xboxhdm is a file named 'make-iso-win', run this file and wait for it to finish. It will make an .iso file.
5. Burn this file with DVD Decrypter, and leave the CD in the PC.
6. Unplug the Xbox DVD-ROM IDE cable, take the power cable off the DVD-ROM.
7. Turn on the PC, Before the PC BIOS looks for Hard Drives, hit the Pause/Break key. It should pause at this time.
8. Turn on the Xbox.
9. It will boot to an error code (#11) regarding the DVD-ROM, but the Hard Drive will be unlocked, this way you'll get xboxhdm to access it on first attempt
10. Hit space bar to continue booting the PC. If it takes a long time to boot (several minutes), then the HD has not been unlocked.
11. You will get a menu, now choose Option 1 (by typing ‘1’) and press enter to boot VGA console with Xbox-drive utilities (default). Type ‘xboxhd’ when it asks you for a login. Another list of options will show up, choose option 1 again (the one that says ‘Build a new Xbox HD from scratch’) and it will begin to format and write the partition table etc. when it asks you about C type yes and when it asks you if you would like an F select yes .
12. Power down PC and Xbox.
13. Put the Hard Drive back in the Xbox and boot.
PLEASE NOTE: If you get a message about a frozen drive, just disable auto detect for the drive (xboxhdm will detect the HDD even if it's disabled!) _________________

do you mean that after step 9 i should remove the hd from the xbox and put it in the pc, then continue booting the pc? btw, i've looked all over for an ms dash and have so far been unable to get hold of one.

no leave it pluged into the Xbox and turnd on......... JUST take out the ide cable and plug in the one from computer......

tried to find PURP on the members list but get a 'Sorry, this Module isn't active!' so still can't get the ms dash. the torrents i have come across are all for 81mb but the tracker is either offline or the file is deleted cos i just cannot get at it. now for the eeprom, looking in my AID folder in BIOS>MS there are some folders inc. 256kb, 512kb, 1mb and MS and in ms dash there are a few. bin files, 3 256kb files and 7 1mb files to be precise, do i use one of these to put in the eeprom of xboxhdm? there is one called 5713.bin which is 1mb but the 5838 one is 256kb so which should i use, or should i put the whole lot in the eeprom folder? finally if you have another link for ms dash 5960 or newer please? i can't even PM PURP since the member list module is not online.

The MS dash files are in the dash folder i believe in the aid iso itself...you are probably looking in the folders that were in the main rar file. _________________

right guys, am downloading what i am led to believe is the latest ms-dash right now, a member in afterdawn forum is hosting it on rapidshare.
@robbieboy: u said none of them files are the right ones, i assume you
mean the bios files in AID distro? i thought these were the eeproms, so don't i need to bother with any of these?
@robbzombie: i opened the AID iso using Ultra ISO, in the Files folder > Dash folder i extracted ms-c.zip which is 91mb, this is the one i mentioned in my last post.
now guys, the one i just downloaded from the afterdawn member 87.7mb so what is the difference, how do i know which ms dash version it is? i also thought it was a case of one is rar and one is zip so packed sizes would be different for that reason, however afterdawn guys is 167mb unpacked and the AID one is 171mb unpacked.

ok, so i downloaded the ms dash from TheRealHypnotix sig and made my xboxhdm iso. i used this to format a 12.7gb samsung HDDwith the option 'Build a new Xbox Hd from scratch'. after having put it in my xbox i have a new problem, i'm getting error 4 which is '4 - bootldr - Ram check failed' so what do i do now?
