EBay has lots of replacement lasers for sale for the different XBox DVD drives ... does anyone know if these are meant to allow the drive to read types of media that it wouldn't read before? Or are they simply exact replacements (and thus won't lead to better media compatability) meant only if your laser is beyond cleaning or repair?

yes there are serveral, check out http://www.llamma.com/xbox/

they have some, the easiest is the thomsons
