cable modem====>hub (connected to uplink port)<==computer one
computer 2 (ftp 2 xbox======>Router(to the hub) <=====xbox
So what i want to do is not have computer 1 on the router so i want to hook that to the hub to get internet connection. I want computer 2 and xbox on the router and have internet connection for the two plus be able to to ftp from comp 2 to x-box. Will this work? _________________ Modded 1.4 XBOX and 128MB RAM (double the original)

Okay, lets see if I get what youre trying to say.
You dont want your first computer hooked up to the router, but you want it to still have internet access, through a hub that is connected to the cable modem. Then you want the hub to go to a router that splites the internet connection to your second computer and xbox???
Lets start with what I see first. The difference between hubs and routers is mainly one thing. Routers can split internet connections and still connect computers just like a hub can for networking.
A hub cannot split the internet connection, it is only for networking purposes. Thats why a router is also a hub but a hub is not also a router.
This also explains why hubs are cheaper then routers.
Now lets try and get your system working. How many ports does your router have? Most routers have four or more ports plus an uplink port. I dont quite understand why you want to use a hub and a router. Could you explian to me your situation in a little more detail. thanks, hope i can be of some more help _________________ XBOX v1.0:

I dont want to use a router on computer one because i dont like to configure the router all the time for my different needs. No a hub is not like a router it does not supply the the computers with ip addies that comes from isp, it acts as a crossover that way all computers can communicate i had both comps running through hub at which time i had to purchase additional ip addy (comcast only assigns on ip per account all other are additional) router will provide the pc's with its own ip and internet and network is established. I tried running my config like this but things did not pan out right comp1 to hub, comp2 nic1 to hub (internet nic) comp2 nic2 to hub (xbox ftp) and xbox 2 hub . I could not get pc 2 to connect internet or talk to xbox. so i disconnected internet nic and had no problems ftp'ing to xbox then but then i was out of the network with comp 1. My router is a 5 port wireless netgear router. i just want to bypass router on comp 1 the xbox and comp 2(file storage and server). I know it seems redundent but this is what i would like to do and would like some in put from others because i wont be able to even try for a few days. _________________ Modded 1.4 XBOX and 128MB RAM (double the original)

Alright, I get what youre saying.
In my second computer I tried running to nic cards, thinking that everything would work fine. But after failing to get either to work with the other connected at the same time. I visited my neighborhood computer shop and talked with the guy for a while.
He's never seen two nic cards work on a computer without a server mobo. On a home computer, basic mobo, the two nic cards interfer with each other and dont communicate correctly with the mobo.
Good luck giving that a shot. Whats the problem with your config and the router? Any reasons why its a no go? _________________ XBOX v1.0:

Ihave not tried the hub router combo yet just wanted to see if anyone else had any experience. yea i see alot of people mention the two nic deal. I spent 5hrs just trying to link the two comps one day thats when i bought the hub and purchased additional ip. I will post my findings _________________ Modded 1.4 XBOX and 128MB RAM (double the original)
