Ok, so we're starting our competition today. I am very unfortunate that this case is not for myself, but for my brother, and he doesn't want anything fancy. I will be getting another real soon that I will be pimp'n, so when we do, maybe another competition? However for now, I have what I have, and I'm gonna have fun doing it.
Since its nothing special, it shouldn't take me more than a week, but I got an idea for something that I haven't seen before, hopefully it works out
Ok, I don't have much time now, but I will hopefully get some preliminary pics of my process going tonight. Just have to figure out how to batch resize images with Fireworks _________________

Well, here are some preliminary pics. Again, notihng exciting, just the jewel and case.
The green stuff with the jewel is the polishing compound that I use with my dremmel. Makes its really sparkle.\\
More to come, likely tomorrow.

I have to say that I was rather disappointed to see the condition that the case was in. There is tons of dents and scratches that I'll need to get out.

Ok, small update. I have disassembled the xbox completely, and am starting to sand so I can paint soon. Again, nothing exciting, as this is going to be a very basic mod.
More to come tomorrow, likely. Maye tonight, depends on what I can get done.

I had some spare time tonight when the kid took a nap, so I did a little soldering. I've back-light the controller ports with blue LEDs, and swapped the green/red leds with blue/green ones.
I ran out of blue LED's tonight, so I can't do more. Gonna have to go hit my local supplier. If not, looks like I'll be waiting for a delivery.

Ok, well, I went to my supply store to buy some blue 5mm LEDs. I wanted a bunch, so I brought all they had(32) up to counter, at which point the guy tells me that it costs $2.00 EACH LED! So yeah, I'm gonna have to wait till I can order some over the internet.
Anyways, I had some time today, and I got started on the one thing that I think may set this xbox apart. Its not much, but here is the situation:
I stated above that I am building this xbox for my brother. Now, he doesn't have any internet/LAN connection anywhere close by to his room, and can't get it run. No computer with which to use a wireless NIC and connect the xbox to. He's not looking to play online, he just wants to be able to connect with a computer in the house and upload music/roms/etc. So...
I had a spare Linksys external wireless network adapter that connects to a computer with a USB cable. I opened the case, removed the board, wrapped in electrical tape, and taped down. I cut a hole in the case and ran the antanae out the back above the video port.
I cut the female USB connector port off the board, and cut the ends of the male/male cable that came with the adapter. I soldered the wires onto the board where the female port connected, and spliced the other end into controller port 4s wires. So, the idea is he boots linux(which I will install the driver for before I give it back to him), and has a wireless connection built into the xbox. He can upload the files with the ftp daemon, move them into the file structure where he needs, and PRESTO!
More for the case mods tomorrow or later tonight.

Well, the quality of the pics that I've taken in the last couple of days are crap. I've had to lend my good camera out, but I should be getting it back soon.
So for the case, since I can't mod the case it self, I wanted to do a paint job thats a little challenging(and I mean little).
So, I'm doing a 2 color paint on top of the xbox case black.
What I wanted was the "valley" parts of the side vents and top grill to be a different color. So I paintakingly masked off every ridge to leave the valleys open to take paint. What a pain in the ass. But its done.

I'll keep that in mind. I will be getting another xbox very soon for myself, and I plan to do some very extensive work on it. This would be a perfect place to showcase it.
So, further painting. Being a long weekend I'm unlikely to get my LED's. so for now, nothin I can do.
I wanted to use XBMC to stream some video to my tv, but I have leant my brother my xbox while I build his. So, I had to throw the case together to get it up and running without any of the pieces I was working on.
I have a controller that I got delayed in modding(back light buttons, etc), so its all in pieces. However...
In my haste to get painting, I forgot to prime the DVD bezel and the front panel. So after letting the primer cure over night on the case, I was ready to paint when I realized what I had forgotten. I ran, grabbed the two pieces, and gave them a quick layer of primer to start them off. Then...
f#&@! I didn't mask anything off on them. So... little nail polish remover took off the right parts back to plastic, some brasso to polish where the mail polish remover was, some tape, and I'm back on schedule. More tomorrow.

After a couple of layers of primer on the main cover, I give it a light sanding so with some 2000 grit so the paint will go on nicely.

I've been getting ready for a job interview for the last several days, so I haven't been able to update very much, though I have gotten some more work done. Just painting.

I like the color combo you used. The blue fins look very unique. From what I can see, the silver top looks supurb. Is that silver krylon fusion also? Since you primed it, i'm thinking it's not. Let me know, it came out great. _________________

It's Krylon, but not fusion. There doesn't appear to be a metallic silver fusion that I could find from the website.

that mobo is dusty as hell in 1 of the 1st pix!! lol old thread i know but i got an idea for that, tape up the blue on the fins, and paint the "valleys" silver as well, that way its 2 tone instead of 3 lol _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial
