hey guys,

just dont be scared to make some suggestions.. Maybe you have a COOL IDEA for us to work on..

DJB im thinking what about using AVALAUNCH because it can pull UPDATES FROM THE WEB..

For example:
Just say we release the new Autoinstaller soon
Then we have a update.

AVALAUNCH can connect to any website or ftp and download the required files.. I did a test with updating the AVALAUNCH DASH and worked sweet.
This would be a excellent feature and save us heaps of time making fixes and releasing them

anyway, just my 10 cents.

keep adding your suggestions guys,

cheers,

forahobby

Hm, auto-update would be a good idea, but hopefully it won't need updating much, hehehe Smile

Also, an Avalaunch skin would be a lot easier to use, the only thing is does Avalaunch has the flexibility I need to write an installer?

I'll do some more looking into it and get back to you about it...

that sounds like a great idea to me, auto updating would save a shitload of time.

If you could, how about including the stream files in XBMC this time. that would be cool, call me lazy, but it would save us the time it takes to ftp them to our boxes.
i realy liked the amount of trainers on the last one. that was fuckin cool.
one suggestion: how about simplifying the dash, something like:

Games
Apps
System
Dvd drive

every thing can be broken down into one of these, and that way when we fire up our xbox, we'll have a simple menu to look at initialy, and not an overwhelming plethera of options. then add a lock on the system option and the Apps option. this will prevent anyone from accidentaly screwing up our files....trust me, it will be apreciated.
honestly, im just tired of having to explain to my little brother how to use things.
and thats just my thoughts, either way, im sure you'll exceed our expectations again.

You should go all out mate. Have a feature packed AI. You know you want to do it. I know I want to do it but I have tried and failed(no time)

How about using a DVD installer - Pack everything on to it - Ava,evox, unleash, mxm etc. We need to have a customized install, include options to run thc lite or full as m$ dash. XBMC as dash, or no m$ dash. If the installer runs completely free of C partition then people who use Live should/could be more secure.
From there you could also use wizards to set up xbmc, dashboards, apps, emus, etc

Cool I was using a customized slayers disk of my own until I started using your installer(nice work btw!) - I used a simple evox dash as a dashboard selector when the box boots up. Lets face it as good as evox was, its a little outdated now but works fine as a menu with ftp etc.

I have another idea, you could run the autoinstaller off a config file which when edited beforehand would enable you to just drop the disk in and walk away. This would also eliminate the size of the options menu for the AI frontend. FTP/PC installer would also be cool.

Well thats my thoughts I hope I can be of assistence. I also am very fond of AIs but dont have the time to get something out of my own, so I am keen to help or suggest any ideas.

This is what me and forahobby were talking about, IDEAS!! Smile

Really good work Sketchy, and I just admit I never thought of any of this. I do plan to go all out, regarless on how the final product ends up, so don't worry. This will carve our name in Xbox history Wink

Replacing the MS dash with tHc on request isn't too bad of an idea (just as long as you don't intend to use Xbox Live), since it's basically the same style, except more flexible. It would mean having 2 different sets of config files (coz you wouldn't want it saying Microsoft Dashboard). I'd rather use XBMC as a normal dashboard rather than a MS replacement. You want to keep certain aspects that the Microsoft dash has on your Xbox, like your game saves manager etc.

About the unattended approach, versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2 (and also SlaYer's system) will sorta do this, except I think you did have to do a few manual things before or after. This can definately be looked at, but ofcourse there will only be a certain about of preset installs.

The idea of using a PC to do a FTP install is awsome, I love this one. One small prob, I'm not a PC Programmer. If somebody could code an .exe for this purpose (which I can just edit the main functions with .xml or .ini files) it is something that will definately be added.

Anyways, thanks for your input, it's really appreciated...

revolver944,

Sorry I missed your post above Sketchy's Smile Anyways...

I will definately include the XBMC Stream files this time, I totally forgot about this at the time of making v1.3, my bad.

The new dash layout wasn't simple? I honestly thought it would be, as I tried to be as clear as possible with it. I'll probably keep that same style for EvoX, but more than likely keep it more simple for MXM, tHc etc. It's just that the menu looks so bare with only games, apps etc. Scanning the DVD Drive for .xbe files isn't a bad idea either, I'll have to include that.

The idea about locking down the apps and system settings for each dashboard would nearly be impossible, as most dashboards probably won't even support this. I'm afraid this idea is going to be really hard to implement. I will have a look at it closer to the time of when I put it all together, but at this time I can say it probably won't happen. Basically if anyone screws with your files, just kick their ass, hehehe.

Thanks once again for some great input Smile

Okay, these are all really great ideas...but, let's take it one step further. We can put all of these ideas to work in a machine that has the Xtender Case and 3 HD's....we can then attach a Beer Meister that pours Ice Cold Fosters...after all, you Aussies are known for more than just "The Wiggles"... Smile

Sorry for dispensing the humor in such a serious post, I know you were a little chapped the other day after being snubbed by Xbins...so, just wanted to throw some cheers your way.

Keep up the excellent work DJB..it's nice to see you so motivated on this project. It's going to round out nicely!!

later bud!

Hey realmccloy,

Personally I don't really care about xbins now, if they wanna support me they can (btw, noticed more updates and still nothing).

The thing with the Xtender HDD mods is that you still have to select which drive you want to use, unfortunately you can't use 'em all at the same time.

Thanks for showing support mate, as you always have Smile

Yeah, I saw that with the Xtender. You have button(s) to select what HD you want to boot up. But still...that would be an awesome thing. What a library you could have under that hood!

Later bud!!

OK, so far we have these ideas:

Installer Ideas:
* AvaLaunch Frontend with web update capabilities
* Replace MS dash with tHc Dash (on request)
* Clean up BIOS list, and add new BIOS's

Apps Ideas:
* Include XBMC Stream Pack

So far I have to do research on AvaLaunch, but hopefully the script will be flexible enough...

Any more suggestions?

Post subject: Avalaunch frontend?

Wink Hi DJB, im a little confused - When you say Avalaunch frontend do you mean the frontend for the installer CD/DVD or for the actual installed product? - Because if you were using Avalaunch off a read only media such as CD/DVD then the autoupdate would not be able to update Ava's files, as they would be read only. Question

I like Ava and Using it as a frontend for the installer disc would rock, however, I think UnleashX is the dash of choice at the moment, it seems to be evolving quite well.

But im sure you will make an excellent choice when it comes to that time.
Keep up the good work!

Sketch

I meant as the installer disc. Smile

Unfortunately I won't be able to use Avalaunch after doing some further research. From what I've found it doesn't support install features that I need.

So, looks like we're back to square one with this, being Media X Menu. Sad

As far as web updating goes, I might have an idea... The main part of the installer could load up the avalaunch application, which can recieve the updates. However, you'd have to go back to the first and main part to actually install the updates.

Any thoughts on this one?

Very Happy Can you code? we need a code junkie
Code your own xbox-hq AI Dashboard (or app) which has all the features you need - simple menu adding, auto updating, news feeds etc...
Now that would rock - if I could code it would be done already.

Smile

No unfortunately I can't code, either for Xbox or PC. Out of all the things I can do (Web / Graphics / Flash Design, Composing, and Script writing) I cannot create an exe or xbe file.

Our own dashboard is an idea that me and forahobby talk about sometimes (more the both of us dreaming I think though, hehehe)

However...

I made a small breakthrough as far as the PC installer side goes, I'm gonna contact someone soon about it to see if they can help.

Will keep yas posted.
