I have a softmod xbox that is working fine. A friend has given me an xbox that I think someone has softmodded and failed. When it is switched on all that happens is the light flashes red then green. no video output etc you can open the tray. Can I use my xbox to repair this one. I have my eeprom backed up but I dont know how to access the knackered xbox to find out what is going on. The indications are a corrupt eeprom I think Any advise would be of much help.

If you feel the eeprom is your issue, you can always follow this tutorial and replace.

Nope the only way to fix that xbox is with a chip. You will need to open the xbox and find what version the xbox is and then buy a chip for it. With a softmod, you can't do anything like that. _________________ Moddingbandit
I do softmods and solderless chips only. Just Pm me for details.

My only concern is you aren't getting any video.
If you had a softmod gone wrong, I would imagine you would get an error screen..which you are not. Softmod effects files on the HD. The TSOP and eeprom would still be okay, you would get the flubber screen, the bios would load and hence look to the HD for a msdash.xbe to boot. When it didn't find that you would get a generic dash error screen.
A chip may not be your solution, although you could give it a shot. If you are wanting to try an eeprom, use the tutorial. _________________ Xbox 1.4

I think he mentioned that it's flashing red and green.
If it was just flashing green, I think it would could just be a coma situation, but with the red/green I think it's mobo related. _________________ Xbox 1.4

So a failed TSOP gives a no video/audio scenerio?? I always thought that you would still get the flubber screen, and then a freeze-up when it tried to load the bios.
I guess I learned something new. Who says you can't teach an old dog a new trick...lol. _________________ Xbox 1.4

Yes, I know that.
I just still thought you would get the beginning of the flubber screen...then just freeze from there. _________________ Xbox 1.4
