I got error 21, but was able to fix it by selecting the "Restore mod backup" option from the SID 4 installer menu.
My xbox is working again, but the C drive now doesn't show any file when I FlashFXP into the xbox, or using the UnleashX's file manager to navigate to the C drive. However, I can see files in the C drive if I use the SID 4 installer's File Manager, and I believe that it is the real C drive because I also see the shadowc.img file.
Is this bad? How can I fix this? Thanks very much in advance.

your shadow C is fake files it is one of the main reason sid 4 and up come to benefit , so that a noob cannot damge or break the mod . but if your xbox is working fine why you want to know about this? _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

Although my xbox is working, UnleashX can't launch the MS Dash because it doesn't see the C drive. Thanks for replying.

I no longer get error 21, and UnleashX was launched at start up with no problem. I can insert a game and play it fine too. Boot with the tray opened would get me the SID 4 installer menu as expected. All is good so far.
But when I tried to launch MS dash from the UnleashX menu, it complains that it can't find the dash executable in the C drive. To investigate this problem, I use the UnleashX's File Explorer to examine the C drive, and found that the C drive is empty. I then FlashFXPed into the xbox to check out the C drive, and it is empty as well. But if I use the File Manager in the SID 4 installer, then I can see that there are files in the C drive, including the shadowc.img file.
I think my problem is that my softmod does hide the real C drive, but it doesn't mount the fake C drive, and therefore my default dash (UnleashX) and FlashFXP can't see the C drive.

ok the reason you cant view the content on C drive anywhere other then sid 4 installer is cuz its shadowd! and this is normal , however the ms dash loading is not ..... try runing sid 4 and uninstalling softmod and reinstalling it .
having sid 4 installer can be dangerous because theirs no mounts on sid 4 installer. so when you re softmod put it on single boot or dual retail.
so if someone acidently messes with sid 4 installer then can very much indded break the mod. _________________ Xbox 360 Premium edition

I reinstall the softmod and all is working now. I also put it on dual retail as you suggested, it's a very good advice. Thanks again gus738.
