I just bought an xbox for 50$(dvd drive trouble though) that was presoftmodded. The apps on it were very old so I figured I reinstall everything, inculding the softmod. At the softmod dash I chose to reinstall msdash backup. After that, I rebooted and discovered error 14. Sometimes I get error 13. It will read games fine, but not any of my discs that will help me i.e. Slayer's, A.I.D, or anything else. Since I can't access msdash to copy the splinter cell saves onto the hdd, I can't reinstall the softmod. Am I going to have to install a modchip to recover this box, or is there something else I can do? I'm tired of using my modchip to fix xboxes.

hotswap it(no need to chip it). Recovers all your problems. Check out the forums or tutorials for a how-to
