I’m hoping someone here can help a newbie to the softmod scene. I have got an xbox that has been softmodded by a friend of a friend as I wasn’t sure what to do, and it was working fine until last night when I think I’ve done something stupid. It was a dual boot machine, power button booted Evox dash and the eject booted the unleashx softmod menu I think (blue screen with options on the right) I decided to clean up my game saves and think I have deleted the unleashx softmod menu somehow, is it possible that the menu was a game save? If so how can I get this loaded back on the xbox? It still boots evox and runs fine just no dual boot. Help please!!

You can re-install the softmod with AID3...assuming you had SID 3.1 or 4.5. If not, copy the udata and tdata to your pc or to the f: partition and install the softmod over your current one.
First install the m$dash 5960 on c:. Then install SID and choose the dual boot option. When that is finished, copy over the udata and tdata back to e:.
When you have downloaded AID3, there are manuals packaged in it. You can read about the install process in there also. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Thanks for the suggestion. As I don't know what it was soft modded with in the first place I was going to just remove the mod and start again and reading your post that seems to be what you suggest. I was thinking of using AID 3 to format the c partition and then install the M$ 5960 from the disk as you suggest but do I need to format it or can I just copy straight over the top? Also do I need to copy everything from the E drive as well, I only thought it would overwrite the c drive? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a bit new to this

You do not want to just copy new files over old ones.(things get left there)
I would recommend using the 'Format Retail' option, that way you get rid of EVERYTHING! (Only do this if you DO NOT want to keep any gamesaves or other files.)
If you DO want or need to keep files I recommend doing an FTP backup of the files you're going to keep and then 'Format Retail'. (noticing a pattern here? )
If you do not have the option of backing up your files to another location then you can just Format C.
Then you can reload M$Dash 5960 and install SID 4.5 and have a CLEAN install.
(Sorry, I'm a PC tech, and M$ has made me a little un-trusting of upgrades ) _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Thanks for all the detail, your help is much appreciated. I guessed a format would be the best option. I have got the ability to ftp the info so I will do that and perform a Format Retail and load the M$ dash and then mod again, I take it my eeprom data will not be lost or altered by doing this? Also do I need to reboot the box after loading the M$ dash before modding or is it ok to do it all in one go? Once this is sorted I'll be upgrading the drive as well which looks fairly straightforward, famous last words eh!!

Your EEPROM information is actually stored on a chip on the Mobo. I would FTP a copy of the EEPROM backup as well (better to be safe than sorry!)
After loading M$Dash 5960, you do not need to reboot before you install the Soft-mod.
So, your sequence of events should be as follows:
1. - Boot AID 3.0 -
2. Make a fresh Backup of your EEPROM if necessary
3. FTP into your Xbox and copy the information you want to keep.
4. Format Retail HDD
5. Install M$Dash 5960
6. Backup EEPORM and M$Dash
7. Install Soft-Mod
8. Restart Xbox and remove AID 3.0 disk
9. Press A button to install Virtual C
10. Have a beer to celebrate!
11. Have another beer to celebrate!
Congratulations! You're Done! _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Thank you for the step by step instructions, they look nice and easy to follow and I think I'll have a go at that this weekend, especially steps 10 and 11 as they look very important indeed!!
One very quick question though, I'm going to put in a larger hard drive and use xboxhdm v1.9 and it tells me to put a backup of the eeprom in the linux/eeprom folder, now is this all the info backed up with the eeprom (disk info etc) or just the eeprom.bin file?
Thanks again for all the help, very much appreciated!!

I believe you only need the eeprom.bin file in the ...\linux\eeprom folder, but I put all of it in there just because.
BTW: your eeprom.bin file needs to be named "eeprom.bin", it can't be anything else, as the Linux operating system is 'case sensitive' on EVERYTHING! _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!
