I recently picked up a xbox for $20 it was advertised as broken. thought i'd use it for parts, anyway as it turned out, the onlything wrong with it was the dvd drive. so, i replaced it and installed a modchip. Since i have 3 other xboxs modded with upgraded hdds, i thought i'd turn this one into a linux box, now ive tinkered with bios before, but they were always ones already on an auto-installer. now, my questions are,
1. If i want to flash my modchip to be compatible with linux, can i just add the cromwell bios onto a disk with the xbox-hq auto installer iso, and put it into my dvd drive and use the flash option? (i will be flashing a applex v with the two flash points shorted together, this enables flashing via. installer disk)
2. I was also wondering if i could use this as a server, it will have a 160gb hdd. and if i did this would i still be able to use this to surf the web and download with out disturbing the functions it needs to perform as a server?
3. would xbox-hq be interested in utilizing this server? i realise this would mean leaving it on all the time, i have no problem with this. i think it would be cool to have a site dedicated to hacking the xbox, utilizing a hacked xbox as a server. _________________ XBOX360

A hacked bios will run XBOX LINUX just fine.. You dont need to have the cromwell unless it states it in the specific xbox linux version you are going to install..

Yes you can.. You could setup http downloads or a ftp server..
We would have to look into this more but im sure it can be done.. I remember a mate of mine 'SystemLord' who is a member on xboxhq got his xbox working as a WEB SERVER.. It was cool..
It would nearly be a first for a website to run from a xbox espcially a xbox website.. hehehe lol

We would have to do some testing and see what it can handle.. Also we would have to look for some sort of SQL database which would work on XBOX LINUX.. Once again more reading for us to do..

exactly what do i need to do to get my xbox to run linux? im talking full linux install. i have other xboxs to play games on, and where cant i get this? i've tried to burn a linux boot disk before, on all kinds of different media and speeds, but every time i tried to get my xbox to boot it, it would not read the disk. i would see init... checking... unknown. _________________ XBOX360

Usually with linux there's 2 types of installs:
* installation to E Drive (this keeps your xbox intact)
* installation to F Drive (this setss up a native linux F drive)
As far as builds go, I'd suggest Gentoox Home, or Gentoox Media Center if you want to have a play with it. Both can be found on http://gentoox.shallax.com
