My son went and got himself banned from Live using a modchip. From what I understand I have to replace the eeprom in order to get him activated again. Is this a simple matter of just plugging the new chip in or is there programming or anything else I need to know involved?
Anyone have a source for a new eeprom in the USA?

you just need to get your self new eeprom..
Then flash your own xbox with it..
I use CONFIG MAGIC when doing eeprom stuff.. Its very reliable and runs on the xbox console itself.
As long as the eeprom has never been on XBOX LIVE before and banned you will be fine and ready to go again.
btw.. ive never had this issue myself but plenty of members on HQ have in the past.
I am told I now need a new HD as well since they get banned as well.

That's true, you can look on www.outpost.com for some cheap hard drives, also check on www.newegg.com you may find some very acceptable prices. Normally can get a 200/300gb for <$100. Just make sure to check with this database to see if it is lockable once you determine which one you want to use.
If you so happen can't find that model on our database post the model number hear and some users might be able to give you personal insight into the model. _________________
