Well there is, but its gonna cost, A mod chip will allow you to build a new harddrive with AID 3 from scratch, but if you want to keep it cheap you may have to burn a new disk and try again or try a different computer. _________________

well the thing is.. i wanted to start this project cuz i wanted to learn more about running xbox and electronics and what makes them tick and stuff.. plus i already spend so much money on buying the stuff to softmod my xbox ( action replay, mechassault etc..).. but in the long run i might just try to install a chip in there.. but its gonna cost me $100 +.. soo money down the drain there.. but.. ill give it one more shot tonight about the xboxhdm.. (reburn the disc and all that).. could u use cd-rw to burn the .iso image?
if i wanna switch to xbox with a chip.. how do i uninstall the softmod to go back to regular xbox?

Its cool that you want to learn about the xbox. I use a CD-RW for xboxhdm so yes you can. Yes you would have to return your xbox to normal if you put a chip in it. Mod chips can run from $20 to $80 depending on what you want to use. _________________

Check the reported size of the Maxtor, it may be 'locked' (not xbox locked). I had the same problem trying to install a Maxtor 160Gb drive into the xbox. The HDD I used came out of a TiVo (which is known to lock HDDs) and had to be unlocked first, using a small utility called diskutil. See http://www.weaknees.com/maxtor_powermax.php for a resolution.
