So I'll probably get yelled at for not searching or something like that but I tried doing a search and got no where. I don't really have a big amount of patience and want answers right away so here's the low down.
I'm really new to the modding scene and I haven't really found anywhere that gives a direct answer.
I wanted to know what the best mod chip would be. Also what are ALL of the options that you get after you mod your xbox? Do you always need to hook your xbox up to a computer to get things from the internet? What is the difference between softmod and hardmod? What is a softmod? Thanks in advance to anyone who answers these questions.

Sorry man but I don't have the patience to do an Xbox modding 101 class.
First post and come off with an attitude?
Best mod chip, depends on budget and soldering skills.
All the options after modding are too long to list.
You can hook the xbox directly to the internet via cat 5 or wireless adapter.
Hardmod = chip
Softmod = software exploit
There's the answers directly and with information for impatient people.
It's accurate and to the point.
I've taken all the time I wish to on this post.
The rest is up to you.

M8!

If you have no patience then don`t even get into xbox modding I can tell right away that it`s not for you.

If however you suddenly grow some patience then you`ll find everything you need to mod an xbox in these very forums.

although the tutorial section is where I recomend starting.

If anyone does post the answers to your questions here they are gonna have sore thumbs when they finished + must have too much patience to waste.

This isn`t ment to be taken the wrong way but that is what the tutorials are for.

So I apologize and totally didn't mean to come off with an attitude, I just wanted to get to the point. I'm sorry if it came out that way. Thank you for your help though.

Unfortunately for you, modding requires alot of patience. You cant expect to get it right the first time, so you need to either learn how to be patient or borrow some patience from sombody. Laughing

The good news is that you came to the right place. Your questions WILL be answered here. Now please keep in mind that we DO NOT CONDONE PIRACY here, so make sure that once you have modded your xbox your own what you are backing up

Best Modchip - This is like the what came first, the chicken or the egg question. You will get alot of answers on this one. I prefer the Xenium chip. It is easy to instal especialy if you go solderless and the OS is awsome. You will have to flash the chip with a bios before you can do anything else.

Options - That depends on what apps you install into your xbox. You would have to get AID 3.0 which will install the apps to backup games, dashboards, emus and all other apps. It depends on what you want to do.

Your PC will be what gets you any updates for your xbox once it is modded. As updated apps are released you can download them and then FTP them to your xbox via your pc. So you don't have to worry about having your xbox connected to the internet all the time. ** NOTE - if you have already been on live with your xbox do not attempt to go live after the mod. You will be BANNED. You would need to use something like Xlink Kai to play online.

Softmod - Basically this is a mod that does not require a chip. You would use an exploit to get the mod into your xbox.

Now comes the hard part, you have to read up on both Softmodding and Chipping your xbox and decide which way you want to go. We have programs for both. Once you decide, we will help you by answering questions you might have regarding the process. Remember YOU WILL NEED TO BE PATIENT.

Man, you were right Blighty, I typed my fingers to the bone.. Laughing

I`ve done it so many times before myself. it sucks when you post and find someone else has typed the same bloody great long post

There really is no need to have to ask the same questions as 10 gizzilion people have before,

Still good for you enigma, you`re a better person than I, even if you have got little stumpy fingers Very Happy

BTW this bit isn`t quite true, I use Linksbox to download apps and well anything i want from the net straight to the xbox, AnodX and Avalaunch can both download apps straight to your apps folder... cool huh!

No patience will only bring you much frustration. If you're not willing to try I suggest paying someone to do the mods for you....and/or every time something goes wrong with the box.
You may be able to get away with being content with a modded box and what ever is installed by whoever does the mod. I'm sure there will come a time that you will want to do more. You'll either have to scrape up some patience to learn or scrape up more money to pay someone who is savvy with xboxes.
When it comes to modding shortcuts can't be taken. You'll only end up with a hosed box.
The choice is yours.

Thanks for all the help you guys. I'll see what I can scrape up in the patience dept. For the mean time I'll be wandering around the forums looking for stuff to read up on. Again, I'm sorry for the way the first post came across and thanks again.

By the way, I think you'll note that the issues was never regarding not searching as you feared, it was the way that written words can be said one way and taken another.
Now that everything is set straight.
Lets play show and tell.
You tell us what you wish to do and we'll show you the way.
Deal?

Well after my first round of looking I found that I want to hard mod with a chip. I was looking into the Smart XX, Xenium, and Xecuter. I noticed you guys are using the Xenium. I looked at smart XX's website and I don't really like the the way it's setup. I also looked at the comparison for these chips but didn't really understand alot of it.

I love my Xenium. It rocks.
So first you will wish to decide on whether to solder or not.
It has the ability to come with everything needed for either situation.
Next we need to clearly identify what version your Xbox is.
It can be 1.0 through 1.6. This is to identify exactly where the D0 spot is on your box and will tell you if you need the Xenium SPice for a 1.6 version box. The best way is to crack the case open and examine the motherboard, but there are ways although perhaps not 100% accurate to determine the Xbox version without cracking the case open.
Have you been able to determine the version, or would you like pointers as to what tools to use to do so.
Come to think of it, we may have a version detector in downloads too, but I've never used it.
For bioses, I use EvoX M8 & 4983 Bios
