hi guys great forum!!!
im sure this is a silly question but here goes....i have a chiped (smartxx) xbox and ive just upgraded to a bigger harddrive (the first mod ive done myself) this has left me with my stock hdd with evox ect installed on it..can i put this in a standard xbox and use it as if it was softmoded????
It would have to be unlocked from the old xbox and locked to the eeprom of the new xbox. Softmodded and retail xboxes require a hdd to be locked (married) to the xbox it is installed in. A chipped box (since it boots off of it own bios) doesn't require the hdd to be locked. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

An xbox needs to be chipped or softmodded to make a back up of the eeprom. Config Magic and the Evolution X dashboard are able to make back up. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

I have a question I decided to post in this thread because I thought it was similar enough.
I just got my HD back from a friend and am ready to install it in my box. He said he wasn't sure if all the data I had made it. Am I at risk of frying my system if I go ahead and install it and try it out?
I did the softmod in 10 minutes guide on techfreaks.com and the follow up HD install, 120G Seagate PATA
Thanks!

it wont fry your xbox, its just software, it would have to be physical changes done to an xbox to fry it. _________________

So I'm ok so long as I have a backup of eeprom etc...
Obviously, I want to unlock my current HD before I install the new one. Then I would lock the new one once installed. Right?

K, so I installed the new HD and powered up w/no disc. I got the typical startup w/the green xbox logo. Nothing else. No dash. I tried R, L, back, black. No dash. I put a game in shut down, powered up. It ran original xbox games no problem but wouldn't run burned ones.
Should I re-FTP in and re-do the procedure from point A?

you cant ftp into your xbox in its current state, but try running the disk that you softmodded with the game saves should still be there and you just remod the xbox. Give that a try first. _________________

Should I just keep the larger HD in it now or put the 8G stock back?
Also, this may sound like a dumb question but if I can't FTP into it in its current condition, how am I going to re-soft mod it? Do I need my friends modded xbox (the one who softmodded it in the first place?) 'Cause he moved to FL...
Thanks for your help!

You need to transfer the gamesaves by way of a memory card. Get the gamesaves from another modded box or by Action Replay. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
