Hi i've been wanting to softmod my XBOX for AGES now and i saw a guide to softmod it with hot swapping anyhoo long story short it worked BUT i cant get any apps on it cuz i only have a CD burner and it wont read my CDRs so the only other way would be FTP.
i have a network card which has my cable modem plugged into it and i think i have a cross over cable in my draw it says CAT 5e on it so that should do it?
so i unplugged my modem and plugged in this cable and booted up my softmodded xbox using the Evox dash and went to settings but it said my IP was 0.0.0.0 and i've been trying everything i could think of but it still keeps saying it ... it doesnt say what type of connection it is just the speed of the network card and the mac address i think ... i tried changing my IP settings and then i couldnt use my modem so i put it back on auto ( which is what my modem always has it on ) ... i know very little about softmodding and FTP ( though i have read alot about it on LOADS of forums and as for FTP i know how to upload files to my web site but thats about it )
I hope someone of greater learning can guide me on this cuz i have a softmodded xbox which cant do anything which isnt much fun ... i cant even put it back to normal cuz i cant FTP the back up files off my xbox just in case it matters i'm using zone alarm for my firewall
also sorry for making this much longer than it had to be i just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing out any info thats needed so you can get to my problem faster
anyway if someone could help me i would be very greatful

Q.? Do you know the IP address of your XBox?
if you have softmodded your xbox, start it up and open the CD drive, this will take you back to the main menu, from there find the setting button and select, it will show you the address of your Xbox! make a note of the subnet mask normally 255.255.255.0
whilst you are on that page scroll down and check the username and passwork for FTP access, should be XBOX and XBOX, make sure FTP is enabled! !!if you make any changes scroll to bottom of page and select SAVE sounds obvous but you can exit the page and it will not save!!
You will need to change the IP address of your PC also, Yes as you know you can change it back so no worries there. also make sure
suggest changing it to 1 greater than that on the xbox eg Xbox 192.168.0.2 put PC to 192.168.0.3
put subnet mask same as in XBOX!
from there! connect the cables again, you may need to reboot if it does nothing dependant on your operating system of the PC
open internet explorer and click in address bar and types ftp follwoed by the address of the Xbox. e.g. "ftp//192.168.0.2" without the quotes! it will tell you that you cannot access it! don't worry, just click OK and then click file - Login as: username "XBOX" Password "XBOX"
from there you should be able to copy and paste all you want.

Go into Settings, on the very top, if Your using a Static connection, try switching that to DHCP by hitting A, then reboot, and see what your IP is.
If you keep having problems, turn off your Firewall and try again.

if ur xbox is modded then ftp works if not then it wont work.....

cheers for taking the time to help guys ... sadly none of that worked mostly cuz i wasnt sure what you meant so i'll go through what i did and what i saw
daveodolph i wasnt too sure what you meant about turning on the xbox then opening the tray to get to the menu cuz my xbox uses the UXE exploit and it boots to the Evox dash even if the tray is in or out (unless there is a game in there then it will boot that instead ) when i go to the settings menu in Evox the type of connection just isnt there it's an empty space then after that it says my IP is 0.0.0.0 and then it says the connection type is 100/full duplex then it gives the mac address
i wasnt too sure what you meant about looking in the settings menu for the xbox IP cuz your meant to set that yourself right using your own IP? and yes i made sure to save all the settings and reboot everytime but it still said the same thing on the setting screen IP 0.0.0.0 etc etc
Eddi3 it doesnt say anything next to type of connection so i cant change it by the way in case anyone was wondering how i modded my xbox i used the UXE package for xboxhdm and my OS is Win 2000 Pro

gus738 i read your guide as well as the other that was on the related links at the bottom of it and it still didnt seem to work it just said the same thing ... maybe i'm just using the wrong network cable? i have the cable that says UTP CAT.5E and i have an ethernet cable that came with my modem .. i tried hooking that one up and it said that it couldnt detect it or something

Ok, this is how I did it. XBOX Settings: Yes for static IP,IP (type) 192.168.0.3, Subnetmask 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway 192.168.0.4, enable FTP yes, scroll to save and exit(reboot). PC: control panel, click network connections, right click on local area connections, click once on Internet Protocol, click properties, click Use the Following IP Address (type) 192.168.0.4, Subnetmask is same as above, click ok. Open FlashFXP(hopefully using this) click lightning bolt(quick connect), url type 192.168.0.3, xbox for everything else. Should work. _________________ XBOX V1.4

Also, make sure you're using a crossover cable.

well i'm starting to get a lil' hopeful now cuz after following the advice of DaJackle the info in the settings screen in Evox got filled out ... the type thing said static and the IP thing had the IP DaJackle had given me and i could connect using FlashFXP BUT ( there always is isnt there? ) it wouldnt show the files i copied the output so maybe someone wiser than me could direct me on how to fix the problem further i think we are getting close guys!!

Uncheck PASV mode. For some reason, it makes Connecting to your Xbox difficult.

ok tried that and it does the same thing ... sometimes it will go to a folder and the idle counter will start going up but there isnt anything there
it says something about not being able to load lists? ... it cant be anything wrong with my softmod could it cuz it runs fine and boots games and everything works fine ( well apart from the FTP ) anyway here's the log again
