Which error Msg is it? 05? (error msg # are in the top corner of the screen)
One more thing, how are you locking your new HDD?
If you are using the "FreeDOS" disk you need to make a new password for each HDD! I recommend using HDM's option 3 and then type "unlock -a" (without the quotes). If you use option 3 and it says, "HDD does not support locking", but it does lock with the FreeDOS disk then try another computer. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Locking ? Awp. No, once the PC had written the data from the Linux Cd to the 'spare - new ' XBox drive i exited the XBox HD program and shut the PC down. I then took the HDD out and placed it in the XBox and booted it up. Looks like I missed this locking step.
As for the error message, can't remember the exact phrase but it was written in English at the top of the screen spanning from left to right and was then repeated in other languages below all the way down to the bottom. After it did'nt work I also replaced the original XBox HD just to make sure I had'nt knackered my XBox completly and it was just fine !
Will work on it tonight............
UPDATE: My bad... just returned to the original tutorial that inspired me to update my HDD and saw this step..
"* Reboot once it has finished copying (this might take awhile)
* Press 3 (Boot Linux with Locking/Unlocking Utilities)
* Type lockhd -a
"
I definetly did not do the lockhd-a command. Damn... I have another 10 long hours before I find out if i'm successfull !!

I know i'm a cretin but after the several attempts this past month or so I was running on autopilot this last time because I had never gotten that far. The first few times I was doing this I was following the tutorial to the letter !!

thats a HDD Time Out which could mean the harddrive connections are loose or you hard drive is dead. Check the IDE and the power cables to make sure they are plugged in securely. Does the hard drive even power on? _________________

I had much the same problems, so maybe my experiences will help you.
I first bought a Maxtor 250gig, which would not lock. Then I used a Maxtor 160gig that I had, which locked OK. Then, I used xboxhdm 1.9, and rebuilt the HD from scratch. I put it in the XBox, and for some reason, my softmod was no longer functioning. Therefore, I installed the softmod again, and it seemed like I was going to be OK. Then, I found that even some RETAIL games would not play (namely MK:Deception). I tried everything I could think of, but to no avail.
Then, I decided to unlock the retail drive, unlock my big drive, put them both in a PC and *CLONE* the reatil drive, then activate the F-drive to get the rest of my space.
After a long wait for the cloning process, I locked the big drive and popped it in the XBox. Softmod was there and active, and no more freezing games.
Makes me happy to be alive.
Try the cloning, it might help.

My suggestion would be go to http://hdd-tools.com/ and you can do a free diagnostic on your hdd to see if its has any problems. _________________ XBOX V1.4

Thanks all.
Well I am 100% the HDD is in perfect health, it runs fine on my PC so i'm not worried about that. I will try the cloning method tonight but I was hoping I could do it with Pirrups XBox Dash since I wanted a nice clean fresh start but beggers can't be choosers.
Cheers again !!

That sounds alright actually.
as far as backups if you mean any personal files like Game saves and media stuff there is'nt anythign of worth there keeping. the only file I would want to keep is the XBMC.xml file since it has all my share settings and that is safely backed up on my PC.
OK, so steps for cloning my XBox Hd (1) to my New Larger HD (2).
Insert 1 into PC (as master ?) and have the linux CD run the option 3 (unlock HD).
Shut down PC
Insert the HD 2 (as master ?) change HD 1 to slave and boot the linux Cd again.
Select Clone option. Select correct Destination and source.

Isn't there an XBMC script that lets you play games over a lan off of a PC? Could swear I remember seeing that... _________________ Noli nothis permittere te terere.
