Firstly, I have installed 3 x2.6ce chips before with NO problems. This time though - stuffed.
I downloaded from this site EvoxM8 bios (256k image) and used the Cromwell flashbios 3.0.1 to flash the 256k image on a 1.0 xbox. The result, frag on bank 1, crmfb 3.0.3 still on bank 2. I tried an x2.5xxx bios as well, same result. I tried to re-flash crmfb 3.0.1 back to bank 1 - same problem. Since the x2.6 is 1mb chip, I decided to create a 512k image by appending the EvoxM8 256k image to itself. Flashed and now bank 1 and 2 frags!
Moved onto another xbox - a crystal with the same 2,6ce chip and screwed that chip too. Never had this issue before. Is it possible that the install of the chip header can cause write probs but not read???
I'm just debating using the "hotswap" method of flashing these two chips with another working 2.6ce installed in a different xbox since i don't have a programmer.
So, basically, I am unable to use fb to flash any bios, EvoxM8, crmfb3.0.x, X2.xxxx etc without the chip failing. I've tried flashing (before ruining both banks of both chips) by cd-rw and http.
Help - two new chips arriving tomorrow but one of the xboxes is a Christmas present for a 9 year-old.

Why are you using a 256KB bios on a mod chip that needs a 512KB one? The Xecutor 2.6CE uses 512KB BIOS (and has 2 banks each of 512KB). How did you flash these? In a stand alone flasher? You should not have been able to over write the Cromwell Flash BIOS in bank 2 without using the stand alone flasher (and putting two 256KB Bios' together should still only overwrite the first 512KB, not bank 2, so I'm surprised you seem to have wiped your bank 2). Either way, I would recommend trying to append the Cromwell Flash Bios 3.0.3 with the 512KB version of the EvoX M8 version of your choice, and flash that back to your chips with the external flasher. I think that should work.
I'm not sure how you were able to install and flash other 2.6 CE chips just fine (unless you just forgot you had used the 512KB versions then).
