The v1.6 is the build of the Xbox (Hardware). So you can't make it a newer one.
Let me explain in more detail, when the Xbox was in production they went through several different configurations of hardware components (DVD drives, Video chips, HardDrives, and other stuff), but the main difference is in the chips and boards that the different versions have in them.
That would be like asking "How can I update my 2002 Ford F150 to a 2005 F150?" It can't be done! You can update the files on your HDD tp be the same as the ones in a v1.6 though.
If this doesn't cover it for you I'm sure that another member can explain it little better. _________________ I think I like fixing Boxes more than using them!

Great similie, LEE. He's right, man. If you want to "update" your xbox to the newest build, it's all based on software. As they progressed through software on the Xbox, they needed to change the dashboard to compensate for bugs, or new ways to communicate on xbox live.
If you want to use your MSDash on a softmod, for example, you need to be running the newest "build" of the MSDash on your STOCK xbox. Which is MSDASH 5960, or something like that. There's two ways to get this. The first, is the easiest. On your standard xbox, you pop in an Xbox live game, and go to "create new account" under whatever xbox live option they have. You don't need to sign up or pay, just let it update your dashboard.
The hard way, is to actually run the softmod using SplinterCell or one of the other games, then, boot a copy of AID. Using file manager, you wipe your C Drive by deleting all of the files on it. Then, without rebooting, still running AID, you go to "Install Dashboards ----> Install MSDash 5960" This will give you a fresh, clean install of MSDah. You then eject AID, your box will reboot, and you'll be stock again with the newest build of MSDash.
Then, you proceed with the Softmod, using your new C drive to create a backup to patch and you'll be able to access your MSDash with your softmod menu...
The second way can be extremely confusing for a newbie. So if you're new, just go with the xbox live update. BUT DO NOT EVER TRY TO CONNECT TO XBOX LIVE USING A HACKED DASH!!! This will get that xbox banned forever from xbox live, which could ruin your life... Or just make you sad.
I hope this, and LEE's response help you understand how the xbox works. using the forum and the many tutorial and guides available to you through this site can make you elite in this Xbox modding world.
Good luck, and happy modding, my friend. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

Nope, not if you don't wanna use your MSDash. It's not required at all. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
