Ok heres what i plan to do... hopefully i will get agreement that this will work before i do this tommorow.... I think i read this somewhere but, I plan on taking my friends non modded xbox hdd and putting it into my xbox then i plan on booting Softmod installer Deluxe DVD and installing it, after i plan on putting back the hdd into his unmodded box. Should this work?

no it won't work because you need to lock the hd with the correct eeprom

Your xbox, even though it's chipped, will not read your friend's hdd because it's locked to his eeprom. You would have to retrieve the eeprom of that box to use it with xboxhdm or something to unlock and lock the hdd. Then, once with the hdd unlocked, you can install the softmod. If your chip is solderless, you can install it on your friend's box to install the softmod.
