So I upgraded my stock hard drive to a 160 GB. That wasn't big enough, so I went to 320. Now I want to use the 160 in my PC. Can I just unlock it in SID or Config Magic? Or will that just kill the drive because it's softmodded? I can't use XBHDM because my comp won't recognize the drive. Thanks for the help.

Follow-up: I unlocked it with config magic and now my original hdd (that I didn't do freaking ANYTHING to) gives me error code 7. Any suggestions are welcome.

you could try unlocking it then putting the Xp disc inside the cdrom on ur pc. Then boot up the hard drive and choose format hard drive. If it won't let you then it won't work. _________________ Moddingbandit

Jim, I tried that program, but I don't see how it would be helpful. It can only unlock the master drive, but if the Xbox HDD is set to master, then I can't get into Windows.
Bandit, I'll see if anyone has any other suggestions before I try that.
Thanks again.

Maybe set the HDD as master and bootup the PC with Linux and find a lynix based program for unlocking HDs

Shit. I popped the 160 into my xbox and unlocked it with config magic, then powered the xbox off. Now, when I put my 320 back in, I get error 7. Did I just fry my xbox to salvage a 50 dollar hdd? Any suggestions? Please help.

7 can mean a lot of things. If your 320 is getting an error 7, its possible the partition table is pooched, as thats what happened to me. Will your computer recognize the 320 drive? If so you can try xboxhdm to see if the file structure is in tact with the MC on the disc. You may also want to test the power connection to the drive, and undo/redo all your connections. _________________

All of the connections are good and the power works. The IDE cable is also not the issue. My computer won't recognize the drive. I feel... bad. If anyone can think of anything other than, "Dude, you fried your hard drive", please let me know.

Make sure you set the HDD to 'Slave' when you insert it into your PC.

Are you sure? Xboxhdm only looks for the primary master drive, unless I'm mistaken.

If the 320 is locked, xboxhdm will see it but not be able to read/write from it. Is this what is happeneing? Or do you put the 320 with the jumper set to master onto the primary IDE channel of your comp and both your bios and xboxhd don't detect it as existing? Have you tried another computer? If both the 160 and the 320 aren't detected by your system, then the fault is likely with the computer. _________________
