i was told that XBOX version 1.6 is only the Halo version. i have a regular xbox version that was manufactured on June 13, 2004; and i was under the impression that that's version 1.6.
please shed some light, this might be the answer i'm looking for; because i'm going crazy trying to mod the xbox with aladdin live as a 1.6

there are other v1.6's other than the halo version, infact i would bet that if you were to go out and buy a NEW xbox at any given wal-mart location, it would be a v1.6
and it is quite possible that yours is a v1.6 as well _________________ XBOX360

Yes, if you have a focus chip you have either a 1.4 or a 1.5
If you have the Xcalibur chip, you definitely have a 1.6
Let me know if it's a focus chip, I'll tell you how to determine whether it's a 1.4 or 1.5

Thx man, if it turns out to be a 1.6 are you any good with installing Aladdin live on it? if not, tell me which chip is best because i'm ready to quit on Aladdin live. or do you recomend i buy a motherboard off ebay? and which version?
i'm a big time newbee.

ive never installed alladin live... stick around, someone will halp you out. if all else fails, i would recomend a duox 2, it comes with a pin header and has pretty simple instructions. also the applex vi pro is pretty easy to install as well...though when i ordered mine i had to order it from chipspain.com and it took a while to get here, but like i said hang in there. the moderators here are very knowledgeable and im sure someone will pop up that can give you help with the alladin live. _________________ XBOX360

maybe this is a dumb question....but according to the aladdinlive.com website; are the chips on the modchip facing up or down?
also i see that it's not soldered through the hole. anyways, maybe i messed up in the very beginning....it's hard to do this while i'm at work, can't wait to get out of here.[/img]

i checked out that site, and it seems that they are installed face down. thats odd.... well thats what it shows. is that how you did it?
witch hole are you talking about? i see it has a hole through witch you can push a pen to pop out the bios chip... cool feature. you didnt put solder in that did you?
p.s. i noticed they say to just stick the d0 wire in and tape it down... just a suggestion, i've had trouble doing that as the tape would heat up slightly and peel back, i would recomend just a drop of hot glue, that will provide a snugger fit than tape, but solder if you can.one other thing, did you look closely at the d0 point, i noticed it had a couple different examples where to put it _________________ XBOX360

one more thing....when i tried flashing the chip with the external flasher; it writes ok and when it goes to verify it says failed to read at 0x0000.
i soldered that wire from the chip to the programmer like the website says, and the chip is recognized by the pc...

You will get so many different points of view when it comes to what chips installers prefer. I am partial to Xenium and Xenium Ice (works on 1.6). I like their OS, I like how easy they are to flash, no cables. I like how they cloak for xbox live (no external switch needed). Now, don't get me wrong. I am not saying that Xenium is the best chip out there. I am just giving my opinion on what chips I like. I also like the amount of support and manuals...GOOD manuals that I find for the Xenium.
The Xenium can be installed face down or face up. It just depends on whether you use a quick solder method or the pin header.
I go for the pin header each and every time. Nice and sturdy!!
If you get stuck and need someone to chip your machine. Give me a yell. Maybe I can help you out.

thx man...if i can't get this machine to work tonite then i'll order the Xenium Ice tomorrow at work....i'm done messing with this one; i need something with better manual and more support. I'll keep you in mind when i order it. is there any other 1.6 bios other than the aladdin or the evox M8 1.6? because i get an error while verifying
