Also, are you utilizing a chip or a software exploit.
You could always just put the emulator and all the roms on Disk Media and enjoy them that way. Then, you don't have to worry about HD. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Well you could always flash the onboard bios. And then installs EVox or another dash. But you will be very limited in what you can do with the 8gb.

First, you should get a modchip!
After that, install your HD...just use the cables that are in the xbox! You'll be taking one out, so it's easy to replace.
Once you have the HD and modchip installed you will need to flash your modchip bios. In some modchips, you have to have the bios flashed prior to install via a programmer device. I chose Xenium chip because I can flash via a cd in the DVD Drive.
Once you have your modchip flashed, then run a utility called an autoinstaller. It will format your new HD, install your dashboard, install your apps.
Then, you can use our Emulator Autoinstaller and install up to 20 emulators right on the HD.
If you have any other questions, just ask!

Since you can't take apart your xbox forget about a larger HD and a mod chip.
You will have to do the software exploit (find someone with a modded xbox to help you)
If you can't do anything in the previous posts and I hate to say this, but forget about it. You need money (mod chip, programmer, etc.). You need to take apart your xbox (install chip, HD, etc.). You have to be able to read the tutorials, understand what they want you to do, and put everything back together. If you can't do any of that you are out of luck as far as doing it yourself.
Save up some money and buy a premodded xbox with all the stuff you need.
I hate to sound negative but what can you do?
Personally, forget about your mom and buy a chip somehow. I'll tell you right now. As long as my xbox can be modded it will be (hopefully version 2 will be). A retail xbox is a waste of space and hardware. I feel like I find $20 everytime I turn mine on.
Now I'm rambling.
Make a decision and go with it. _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD

Cheez is correct....softmodding isn't the best option. The modchip is your strongest route! Taking apart the xbox is not real difficult to be honest. I can give you a lot of help doing it if you want.
The main thing is now that you have your HD (you gotta find out if it's lockable), you still have to get a modchip.
We have all the files and apps you will ever need to get your machine modded so don't worry about software yet.
Once you have a mod, you will never want to go back. I have so many options what I can do with this machine. For instance, I am going on vacation in two weeks. I have already backed up about six of my movies (DVD's) and converted them to DiVX. Prior to leaving I will FTP them over to my Xbox so I can watch a movie in my condo without having to bring the disk!
Not only can I play my XBOX games without worrying about disks, I have over 3000 roms (Emulator games) for mame-x, mameOX, Nintendo 64, NES, Sega, GameBoy, and PS1 also on my machine. I could literally play a different game everyday and not play the same game twice in the span of 7 or 8 years!! Not too mention the movie and MP3 options that I have. All this without having to carry disks around and worry about losing them or getting them scratched/damaged.
We're here to help you from step a to z, so get that dog'gon modchip and start enjoying your machine like never before.

Good luck man...I hope you get it soon...
I just spent the better portion of the morning reliving my younger years while playing a bunch of MameOX roms..
I finally got some classics that I used to play back in the late 70's early 80's...
Wizard of War
Time Pilot
Atari Basketball (Black and white video)
Turbo
Rally X
My MameOX rom count it closing in on 6000 games!!
