Hey kids!
I'm new to this forum as well as the whole Xbox Mod thing. My HDD started acting funny several weeks ago so I thought I better get a chip so I would have some options but my Aladdin chip arrived the same day the drive went out (I can hear the RW head clanking!)
I went ahead and put in the chip but I can't seem to get the EvoX Dash to load (error 13) with a new drive. I suspect it may be a result of not having any files from the original drive in the ISO. Anyone know if that's true or is my Xbox just being a pain with my boot disk media?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the site! Have you tried our autoinsatller?
I'd give that a shot as it will reformat the HD and take care of the dashboard too!
It even has the MS dashboard as well!
Was your chip flashed prior to the install?

I was thinking the same thing. I just downloaded it a few minutes ago so I'll give it a shot.
I didn't flash the chip as I figured it had what I needed to at least get started (Aladdin Advanced +).
The funny thing is that I used to work for M$ and now I'm pissed when I think about the whole locked drive crap. I guess they would be happier if I just bought a new MB and drive together.
I'll give the auto a try and report back...
Thanks for the input!!!

I don't have much Aladdin experience, but you may need to flash the chip prior to running the autoinstaller. Can someone help me confirm that...
I don't know what kind of bios comes on the Aladdin, usually only legal bios' like the cromwell come on modchips and then it's up to us owners to reflash a hacked bios on. I thought the problem that the cromwell gives us is it won't load certain media and let you boot a bios disk. Any feedback to let me know if I am correct would be greatly appreciated.

hey Krik and welcome..
Ok.. By the sounds of it your alladin modchip only has the 'cromwell' bios flashed onto it.. All modchips are shipped with a 'cromwell' bios because it is the only legal bios available for the xbox..
What you need to do first is flash your modchip (if you havent already).
Once your modchip is flashed you wont have any problems partitioning/formating and loading evox onto your brand new XBOX hDD..
YOU DONT NEED ANY INFORMATION ON YOUR ORIGINAL XBOX HDD ANYWAY!

I still keep getting an error 13 and it won't read the bios flash cd or the auto-installer cd. I've tried to different CD-RW media types and one DVD+RW just for grins and still no booting from the DVD drives. I have the Samsung drive so I find it hard to believe it is solely a media issue.
Any chance the chip is malfunctioning or one of my connections is bad? With the Aladdin chip, I can boot to the regular MS bios which just gets me a service screen to call CS. If I hold the button and boot from the chip the xbox logo goes red and that's where I get the error 13 screen. The light on the chip illuminates so I'm not sure how to tell if something is wrong as it seems to be working.
I'm starting to move into desperation soon!! Any help would be HUGE!!!

Don't fret. If it's not reading your CD's then it has to be the way they are being put together... My Samsung will even read CDr's.
Did you flash your chip first??? If you didnt flash your chip then it won't read any media other than xbox games. That would be the cromwell bios that I and forahobby mentioned earlier. The Cromwell will NOT let you boot autoinstallers regardless of the media!
Your first step is to flash your modchip.
Let us know if that is done. If so, then we can proceed to help you. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Thanks to RealMcCloy and Forahobby for your help!
I had to use OzXFlash before I could flash the chip but it finally worked and Auto-Install ran like a charm.
I just grabbed an 8Gig WD drive from an old server I had sitting around and it whipped it into shape in no time. I can't lock the HD but that's okay for now. I'll be getting a larger HD but wanted to make sure I knew how to do it before actually buying more HW!
Thanks again for the support!

I believe our autoinstaller has configmagic on it, am I correct?
I think you can use that to lock the HD.
