I bought the clevermod to fix a coma console (empty TSOP) I have lying around. The install went easily and flawlessly. It booted to FlashBios on the first try and all seemed well, until I attempted to unlock the hard drive using the menu option. The console powered off and upon re-booting, I either get the same coma console symptoms or FRAG with no video/audio. I've tried both banks and neither will boot. Please tell me there is a fix for this, as I was looking forward to using this chip, as well as turning the "paperweight" back into a working machine. Thank you in advance.

So you didn't Flash a bios to the
chip first then?
Is there anyway that you can put this chip
in another xbox?
No, I did not flash the bios on the chip at all. The FlashBios is supposed to be able to unlock the harddrive without flashing to another bios. I'm not even concerned with unlocking the drive anymore, just getting the chip to boot the system again would be great. I'll replace the drive, was just hoping to unlock it so it could be used elsewhere. As for reflashing from another Xbox, as far as I've been able to figure out from reading all the forums (xbox-scene, etc.) you can't boot from TSOP (I have no other chipped boxes) and switch to LPC or vise-versa (the X3 chip supposedly has D0 control to allow repairing TSOP after booting from LPC, but haven't seen any real info on it yet). I'm hoping Sunday cam tell me what I need to do to take advantage of the "mail-in reflash" that's mentioned in the User Guide.

If you have an eeprom coma console it's because the eeprom is corrupt. Naturally the hhd unlock key is stored on the eeprom so there is a good chance you can not unlock the drive. You could have choosen the restore the eeprom, and of course lose the drive, which was lost anyway, basicly.
As far as trying to unlock the drive and resulting in a power down I can say I've never heard or seen that happen, but it's probably due to whatever was corrupting the eeprom in the first place.
At this point my only advice is the 2 LPC holes above the mod install go directly to the eeprom, so if there are solder splashes or trouble around those areas then fix that.
I've seen eeproms go bad from power surges, and failed softmod attempts and in those cases the eeprom is intact enough to be re-written. It's possible the eeprom damage you havew is the result of a damaged teansistor in the MCPX chip or sosmething else internal. You can't really tell til you try.
I'm interested in getting any failed chips back so if you are dometic to the USA you might consider sending it an affiordable way back and I'll replace it, PM me.

Also I just re-read this and you weren;t even conxerned with the serial eeprom as the onboard flashrom, but the part about corruption causes is the same. Something bad internally powered off the box and killed the chip I'd like to see what's daed.

Do you want the whole chip or just the flashrom? I can send either way. I'll even end up using the box it was sent in. I was so happy when it revived the "coma console", but I managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, and hosed the embedded EEPROM in FlashBios (I'm guessing...but sounds like it's what would have happened). Should I have used the "Recover EEPROM" option before flashing to another bios? I looked in the user guide for info on it, but couldn't find any. Do I need to have an EEPROM backup file saved somewhere to restore with, or does it use the embedded one? (The box will never go "Live", so I care not about serial numbers or keys) I know the HD is a paperweight, and don't really care about it now. I have an unlocked and prepped drive to use and can transfer any files to it needed for recovering or restoring the EEPROM. Other than "user error" (read: being a dumbass), the chip is great and I've already ordered my second one with the IR kit (so no hurry on the re-flash ) Nice work and thanks for the help.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the original cause of the coma, in case it helps in figuring out what happened. This console died during a TSOP flash from Evox. It made it through the Erasing part and froze at about 90% I let it sit for 2 hours and nothing changed. I knew from doing others that this was "something not right" and gave it a decent burial under my desk, until I heard about the Sunday Chip. I"m not sure what corrupted the EEPROM or why it died after erasing the TSOP.

Actually you should have made the chip so it boots flashbios on either bank, most likley it was that way from the factory. Then on one bank flash a hacked bios, boot that bank and if it boots you are home free, if the front ring LED just flashes red on the hacked bios, then you have to boot the flashbios bank, and do the serial eeprom recovery. The flashrom was probably the only thing bad in yours, but alot of these are flashrom bad and serial eeprom bad too, so it helps to have experience.
Also perhaps a fresh Sunday would again boot, send the old chip back I wanna see if I can fix it I'll send her back and you can try restoration in round 2. You;ll be smarter this time. We want to bring that box back there's not that much wrong with it I bet knowing the history a bit.
Email me from the site or something we'll get that box runnin.
