this is what i do:
1) on my pc i create a folder ( i name it "share"). I create the folder in C:...so i have something like this.
C:\Share
2) then i right click on the "share" folder i just created and select properties... then select the sharing tab.
3) in the network sharing and security section i check "share this folder on the network".
** if you havent shared a folder on your pc (win xp) yet there will probably be some text in the "network sharing and security section" just click the blue text and selcet "share anyway" or "ignore" or whatever it askes you to bypass using the network wizard.**
You can now put music, video, ect in your "share" folder.
4) now in xbmc (im using 03-04-2005) go to My Files, MyVideos, My Music, ect...and select WORKGROUPS (SMB) Network.
5) you should now see the name of your network (windows sets the net work name to "WORKGROUP" by defualt). select the network name then select the name of the pc you want to browse for shared folders. now select the name of the shared folder you want to browse. and that should be it...anything you have in the folder you made earlier you can now stream.
i watched a movie over the network on my xbox the other day and it looked pretty good.
** If i have left anything out please correct me.**
make sure you dont have any software firewalls running like nortons or mcaffee... also make sure the windows xp software firewall isnt enabled (this is a common mistake).
