Konichiwa, Watakushi-wa realmccloy, desu

Before you get too excited, I had to look it up.. Wink

Welcome to the site, and more importantly to the xbox mod scene. You will so much enjoy your machine. We look forward to opening your eyes to so many things that your machine will be able to do.

There are two different types of games. PAL and NTSC.

NTSC is the video system or standard used in North America and most of South America. In NTSC, 30 frames are transmitted each second. Each frame is made up of 525 individual scan lines.

PAL is the predominant video system or standard mostly used overseas. In PAL, 25 frames are transmitted each second. Each frame is made up of 625 individual scan lines.

So, when you search out games keep in mind what you are downloading. Your modded XBOX should be able to read both, but I usually stick to NTSC as a rule of thumb. Japan is listed as having NTSC as a video standard, but I have seen lots of PAL games and equipment from that region.

Anyway, you have a few ways to get games from a PC to your XBOX. But, let's think about why you want to get games from PC first. It's is much easier to back up games to your HD right from the XBOX itself. You can back up games using programs like DVD2XBOX or PxxLoader. They are very easy to use. Once you have the game on your xbox HD, then you can FTP it to your PC, create an ISO and burn the back up. But, with a 200 GIG HD, you have ample space. I currently am using a 120GIG HD and I have 27 Xbox games, about 8 different apps, 140 MP3's, Two Movies (Shrek 2, and HellBoy), three emulators and about 640 Roms (games for the emulators). I still have about 50 Gig of extra space to go. I have yet to backup a game to disk.

Another way to get games it to download ISO's from file sharing programs like Bear Share, Hubs like Direct Connect, or Bit Torrents using Java Client called Azureus. Once you have the ISO you can burn it and play it, or extract it and put it to your HD. Don't ask me how as I have yet to do this, but there are a ton of tutorials.

My best advice to you is to start reading. Once you get some basics you will end up having even more questions, but at least you will have a more solid foundation to ask specifics instead of broad questions.

Also, take some time to get to you know your machine. Using FlashFXP, ftp to your xbox and check out your directories so you know where things are. Read our Newbies Glossary of Terms. Read some Newbie Posts, and some more sophisticated posts too. Don't ever hesitate to ask a question regardless how silly you think it is.

Give it a little time. I have been in the scene now for almost three months. I have learned how to back up games to my HD, back up DVD's to my hard drive, how to convert to DivX so I can watch the movie using Xbox Media Center (XBMC), how to install apps on my xbox's HD, how to install emulators, how to install roms so I can play new games with my emulators. I have only been able to do this by reading up and asking a lot of stupid questions. I only know about 25% of what I need to know, so I am still somewhat a noob. Good luck, and enjoy the site....and your machine.

sayoonara Cool

Yes, like schirmk and I both mentioned in the other post about DC, you can connect using dial up, but each hub has their own rules.

Here's a nifty little FAQ for you in regard to DC.

http://www.neo-modus.com/?page=Help

Once you get back to states, or get stationed somewhere where you can do broadband you can also look into XboxConnect. It's very much like Xbox Live, but free free free. You can download the software and fool your xbox into thinking it's on a local network and use the system link feature to hook up with another player anywhere! And, did I mention it was free?

Dude, you got a little powerhouse of a console. Wait till you start using emulators, xbmc, and other neat little apps out there. I love xbmc (xbox media center). I FTP DivX movies and MP3's over to my xbox and enjoy them right from xbmc. If you are into anime, xbmc even handles some of the extensions that you will find out there. My favorite thing right now is mame emulation. I am just amazed at the fact that I can play real arcade games on my xbox. Since I am an old fart, playing asteroids deluxe, donkey kong, and other classic arcade games just really floats my boat! The N64 emulator is kick ass too, cuz now my daughter can play all her favorite Mario games. Now, if I could just get rid of her GameCube..

Most likely your xbox is already set up to handle dvd's in any region and without the dongle thingy. That's the thing that takes up one of your controller ports and comes with a remote control. Now, with DVD2Xbox you can rip a dvd right to your xbox, but the problem is you can't watch it. Well, technically you could, but you would have to watch each .vob file individually, and that flat out blows. So, the best thing to do is rip the dvd and convert it over to DivX. Then, FTP it to your xbox and view it with an app like XBMC. It' is friggin awesome.

I got my machine like yours. It had a bunch of skins, three emulators and stuff. I added the mame emulator as the one he isntalled didn't work right. I have a few emulators on disk to save HD space. I have uploaded at least 200 skins to our download section. You don't have to be a VIP member to grab them so take some time and browse through. I will look around for a Navy one for you and upload when I find. I think I uploaded an Air Force one already, but not sure.

Then all you have to do is unzip the skin and FTP it to your skins directory, reboot your xbox and select. Very simple. BTW, that's how you do for evox. I haven't changed any of my Avalaunch skins yet, but imagine it's very similar. You should check out MXM dashboard. Here is a video of it in action.. It is so sweet:

http://www.writersgallery.com/MXM/PreviewItsAboutChoice.wmv

I am very close to just deciding to use MXM instead of evox. Not that I don't like evox, MXM is just so much more rich in features. I like how you can program music and video into the background, game and movie descriptions..all kinds of stuff.

check it out when you have a chance, it's way cool..
