Hello Everybody, I'm new...
I just wanted to ask...if the XBOX can play copied games.
And I want to know if, if you open the XBOX and you switch the DVD Drive with another DVD Drive that's Region Free, you can play games from both (NTSC & PAL) on your XBOX.
Thank You. Greetz.

the xbox can't play copied games when it's in retail state.
you can softmod it or install a chip -> now you can play copied games (pal and ntcs)
If you mod your XBOX do you get banned from Live or what....
And does it make a difference with Softmod thiny...?

In my opinion doing a Chip Modd is the best way to got. As far as XBox live goes I will tell you what happend to me. I Modded the xbox i got years ago with a chip, (when you modd with a chip you can boot the xbox into the retail bios side-like it is now-or into the modded bios) I made the mistake of letting the "EVIL"(my kids named it this because of the red led ) XBox log into live and go banned.
I purchased a new one some months ago just for live but after a few weeks modded it too. Now, i have it set not to auto log into live and only do so when in boot into the Retail side NOT the "EVIL" side.
So, in short, yes you can still play live you just have to be VERY carefull not to try it on the modded bios. _________________ XBOX v1.6

Ooh so if you mod your XBOX, you can choose between bioses.
The ´Original´ and ´The Evil´ . If you wanna play on Live you need to choose THE ORIGINAL and to play copies THE EVIL . But can you play online with the copies also, without LIVE!
And what´s the difference b´tween softmod and mod, or something like that.

Yep you just about got it. After getting banned the first time I only play XBox Live with the Retail Bios and the Original Game. I don't think the Retail Bios will even recognize a backed up game copy. Only in the EVIL XBox can you play Backed Up games or games off of the hard drive. Well, as far as i am aware. I am still a bit new to this.
As for the difference between soft modding and chip modding, I can't give you all the details on that. All I really know is about chip modding. It is my understanding that with a soft modd you don't have to open up your XBox to do any Modding. And you can still do things with it.
I figure if I am going to modd my xbox I'm going to do it up all the way LES'S, Skins, plus the chip stuff is just cool as heck.
Anyway, if someone else could jump in and give some input on softmodding that would be great. Also you could try out the new chat room and get help there too.

Just so there is no confusion.
You cannot play on xbox live using anything BUT original xbox game disks. Because you must login using the retail kernel, and not a hacked bios. Only way you can play a backup game whether it's on the HD or a dvd disk is if you are running a hacked bios.
I have one mod that I use on Xbox live with no problems so far and I even have a larger HD in this one.
However, I have been hearing rumblings of people getting banned from XBL because of a larger HD, even if their chip is disabled and they are using the retail kernel.
I am prepared for it to happen as I have a brand new Xbox sitting here in a box just in case. I used my best buy rewards and picked it up as a XbL backup machine. Even though I only visit XBL maybe once every forty days or so, I just like to keep up with everything and see the changes.
When my 360 comes in I am very geeked about the free XBL! I can't wait to see what the marketplace is going to be like.
Also for the record, I too prefer a mod chip approach. Softmodding is ever so popular right now, but never rule out the chip! They are sweet!

yer but why does everyone seem to like the modchip better than a softmod? you can still switch the MOD on and off just like the mod can do and you can upgrade your xbox's harddrive with a bigger one with a softmod, so wat are the advantages of a modchip? _________________ Xbox v1.6

B/C Softmods are too easy to screw up if you aren't paying attentions.
Not everyone can be as sober as a priest when they go to play xbox.
If I did have that, I would screw up the softmod.
Plus like Pirrup said, easier to recover.
You can only screw up a mod chip physically (burned boards, solder joints, electrical arching), however a soft mod can sneeze wrong, or you let some asshole buddy of yours play on your box.
I will only softmod for educational purposes. And I still haven't done it to my Stock XLive Box. _________________ XBOX v1.6
