I've been having issues with my latest install of an X3. I tore everything apart and touched up some solder points. After resoldering the d0 (on the back of the mobo), I pulled a retard moment and tugged gently on the wire to see if it was soldered well enough.
To make a long story short, I think I screwed that contact point.
Will I be able to use the contact on the front, or is the d0 jacked completely on this board? I can't be sure by trying the front and booting because the system wasn't working anyway before that.

I did the same thing the other day. Take a breathe.
You can still use the front if the D0 line is properly repaired.
I created a small pcb w/ jumper to make it easier. You only make 1 electrical contact with the jumper, the other end is insulated and used to hold pressure.
First, patch that d0 with a conductive pen. Then follow the traces, the little "o" 's they make along the tracework. I went to Radio shack and got a pcb (small one, cut it smaller) and solders a single jumper (the paper clip like jumpers, they have it in a big pack) into that hole. I made sure the the pcb was securely taped to the mobo before, so I knew it wouldn't move. Then I just soldered the d0 wire to the jumper itself. Its not pretty, but it is more secure than the wire, and you won't have to worry about moving the wire and pulling it, b/c you will see and feel it is solid.
Hope that help bud.

Thanks, man. I've gotta' run out to Radio Shack and pick up more desoldering braid anyway, so I'll check into the other supplies as well.
The thing is, I really don't do this professionally. I just do it for my friends, or in this case, my brother. Part of me is tempted to just say screw it and use his box for scrap parts, which I kinda needed anyway (I ruined one of the LED contacts in the front PCB of my friend's box, and I want to redo my case mod).
Even though $120 is nothing to sneeze at for a new (refurbished) system, at least I'd have the extra parts to be able to play with.

you can get cheap extra parts anywhere. llamma.com sells broken mobo's for 10 bucks. *(US)*
And I was doing it for a friend of mine to, nothing professional. I just wanted something stable that would pull out the do point if the wire moved. _________________ XBOX v1.6

Another question... If I did go with getting a new box, how difficult would it be to get all his savegames from his old harddrive transferred over? The old HDD won't work in a new box because of the mismatching eeproms, right? And his xbox doesn't work right now... So would I be forced to bring that old box up and running if I want to access his HDD?

you can still salvage the other one as long as you didn't remove all the trace work that goes deep into the board. then you would have a problem getting the game saves. It should still boot the M$ Bios however, you just wouldn't have a place to solder to. _________________ XBOX v1.6
