Using 802.11G and never had a problem. No lag whatsoever. I use a Linksys router with the MN-740 adapter connected to my xbox. I also have another xbox wired into the router, so basically I have two xbox's connected. One wireless, one wired. When I am on my big screen and playing Live it is through the wireless and like I have said, all is well. It's nice to not have to run a wire from my office to the livingroom. Granted, all are on the same floor, but it still is a pain in the ass. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

If you are going to run wireless you need atleast a G router. A G router with speed booster (thats what linksys calls itatleast) is even better. Then you have to get the station for your xbox.
As long as you use G or better you should be fine with minimal lag, but of course if one of the pople youre playing are using a B router you will expereince their lag.
Good luck _________________ XBOX v1.0:

I hate to disagree guys but I have to. I am running a wireless network using 802.11b standard. You really don't need anything faster if you don't want to shell out too much cash. Since your broadband connection would probably be about 600k to 1megabit and 11b works at 11megabits it is perfectly fast enough not to give any lag. _________________ V1.4 Xbox

I agree with you 'hacker', the only reason I went with G was an unbelievable sale that was going on at my local Target.
Got the router for 49.95 and the adapter for 39.95. Figured I couldn't beat it.
The only problem that I have ever heard anyone having with wireless is their distance was an issue. I was surprised since at one time at a place of business I was at, I connected a wireless B router and adapter that was at least five hundred feet away, and went through several brick and steel walls (it was a car dealership). Never had any issues downloading major data from GM server to our handheld scanners or PC. And, some of the updates were huge! _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I would agree if the xbox is close to the router that B would be more then enough, but we tried it in our house, college house with 5 guys living in it, so its decent size, and we ran into the distance problem. We experenced lag with it so we weird it in and the lag went away. We tested with one of my roomates laptops and it was running at about 500k in that area of the house. Just my two cents. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

I think you meant modem not mode but anyway you can't say which is better, it's like comparing a cooker with a washing machine. You need both. The modem connects to the internet and that will connect to your router to internet enable your network through what's called the WAN port. If you have DSL, which is broadband through your phone line there are many routers avaliable with a modem built in.
If you need any help feel free to PM me. _________________ V1.4 Xbox

Wireless is deffinatly the way to go and it keeps everything cleaner as well with no ethernet wires running around your house.
Theres a couple different options you have avalible starting with if you have cable or dsl and moving on from there.
Best of luck. _________________ XBOX v1.0:

no sorry i meant a modem/router combo or to buy them both seperate. ive seen routers and modems built into one but i wonderd if its better to buy them seperate. ive also seen an adaperter specially for consoles to reduce lag, i think its a reciver as well. thanks agian

If you have a modem already with an ethernet port on not USB thought some have both just buy I router and connect it through ethernet to that.
If not if you have DSL it is easier to uy a modem/router combo as it works out cheaper usually. If you have cable broadband or other you will probably need them separate as most cable companies use different connectors. Contact your ISP for info on compatible modems with an ethernet port.
Also you probably do not need a special adapter to reduce lag, I use a normal wireless ethernet bridge on my xbox and it works fine. _________________ V1.4 Xbox
