Hi all, first post and i'm new at this stuff so please help me out.
My XBOX was chipped sometime in 2003 (Almost certain of that) and at that time I never knew anything about chipping/ modifying etc. Now i'm starting to learn things and looking to put a new hard drive in the box soon but I don't know what chip I have. Having used the BIOS Checker v4.0b tool I got this info:
Quote:
Chip Type - LPC based (SST 49LF020)
Using genuine BIOS - EvoX D6 EjectFix
BIOS MD5 Hash - C29B578A4B0084DF354B0D408083EB1C
Now I would like to know what chip I have in the box. I have opened it up and got some pictures (below) but as you can probably see they are poor quality so I was hoping that some of you experts could help me identify it. There was some writing on both sides of the chip which may or may not help you. The writing on the chip was very small so if there is a letter or number wrong I apologise.

If you need other info let me know and i'll try and get it for you.

looks like a aladdin.. They were red..
Basically all of the cheap mods used 49lf020 chipsets.. (well from memory).. Ive been out of the game for only a couple of months and still im behind.. hehe lol
My guess is aladdin..
I was thinking maybe it could also be a applex or apple modchip too but im positive they are green motherboards only!

Thanks for the reply. The red stuff is actually tape and not part of the chip. There is no board, just a chip and when I opened it up it was taped on top of a chip that is attached to the XBOX motherboard. The XBOX is version 1.1 if that helps at all.

its a homebrew mod then..
its the same as my very first xbox of my own..
So the 49LF020 is directly soldiered to your main board??
If it is then its a homebrew mod..
It can be flashed but the problem being is if you make a mistake you will need another xbox with the same setup to flash it again. I used to have this prob all the time when stuffing up my flash and luckily had a mate who i installed exactly the same homebrew mod (49LF020 chip) in.
Why do you want to know whats in it?? The only reason you would want to flash your biox is if your current bios doesnt support LARGER HDD's and it does if its running EVOX M6+ bios.

The chip has wires which are soldered onto the board. I had a look at aladdin chips and saw this:
The chip looks exactly like the one in the blue box but without the red board.

I want to know what it is just to put my mind at rest. I'd rather know everything about my box before I start doing things to it as I feel more at ease doing things when I know everything about it.
Thanks for the replies.

It's a homebrew modchip...
I would upgrade it to a different chip. One that can easiy be flashed right from a Disk in your Xbox DVD Drive.
SmartXX LT OPX is only $29.99 _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I should put in my profile that i'm from England so that to me is no use. I don't want to do anything else to the box apart from put a new hard drive (40gb) in and put a few games and apps on it so i'm not thinking about flashing or learning to flash the bios unless I absolutely need it.
Thanks for the replies and keep the good work up.

If you want a 40GB drive then there is no need to flash your chip unless you have a very very old bios installed.
if you want somewhere cheap and reliable to get your drive checkout www.microdirect.co.uk
