It actually depends on how much lacquer is on the top side of the mobo.
Basically, if you cannot fit 30AWG wrapping wire into the D0 hole prior to trying to solder it, then you are much better of soldering to the alternate D0 point.
But, if I can get the wire in, all I do is pull it back out, put my iron into some tinner, and then then tin the stripped portion of my awg wrapping wire.
Then, I push the wire to the D0 hole again, usually because of the tin it's just a little too fat to push down in, but if I heat the tip of the wire while pushing it in, it will slide right in no problem. Then as it cools it will form a nice joint with the D0 hole itself and I give a gentle tug to make sure it's secure.

Yea, just have a steady hand before trying. If you have the jitters have a cervaza before hand. It not hard, it great if you have the alligator clip stand with magGlass to see what you are doing and hold the wire steady _________________ XBOX v1.6

Yea man,
soldering the D0 is kinda tought, my advice is to go out and find yourself some af the smallest diameter rosin core solder you can ( the smallest Ive found DIA.: 0.032 ), also I found that if the tip of your soldering iron is small it works really good just find a soldering iron were you can remove the tip, take the tip and grind it down some it make the diameter of the tip smaller.
Hope this helps, good luck

Where did you find that 0.032 solder? I've been trying to find some smaller but everyone around here just seems to use solder for framing and plumbing so needless to say, its a pain to work with.

I found the stuff is got at Ace Hardware, but any hardware store should handle it. Even try radio shack or any electronics store.
good luck

I didn't even use any solder. I just burned off the laquer and heated up the wire from the chip while pushing it into the hole. When it got hot enough the wire just slipped into the DO. Tugged it when cool and all was good. _________________ Xbox 360 #2

go for the underside D0 for sure, place the tip of the iron on the edge of the underside D0, then quickly touch a little bit of solder to the point, this should leave a small ball of solder right on top of the D0 point. Then place the wire on the small ball of solder and touch the hot iron to the ball, the wire will drop right in, and when cooled, the joint will be perfect. _________________ www.freeitemsworld.com

Yeh, Bottom is always best if you nt done it before, nothing wrong with it, if you still want to use the top and the wire is too thick, then clean the point gently with a fibre glass pen, then kinda mask around the hole with insulation tape, do 2 layers, and then if you slip or put to much solder on you won;t mess it up.
But it can be difficult to get a nice strong joint due to the size of the solder point, so bottom point or MG's way is best
