I just sent my Xbox off to be modded, and just read about Thompson drives (particulary launch drives, which I have) not reading CD-R's and stuff. Will this effect me when it is modded? Or will it still be very picky about what it reads?

Thanks for the help

Unfortunately, modding the box shouldn't make the drive any less picky... it's a function of the drive, not the chip/BIOS.

Do you have a dvd burner? If so then the Thompson drive doesn't matter because it reads DVD +R's fine. And, from what I hear the Thompson isn't real picky when it comes to the CDRW's either. I read a pretty big debate on another forum and everyone has their own opinions for which drive they like better. I have the Samsung drive in mine. I haven't tried to have it read anything other than XBOX game disks so far though. The guy who did my machine gave me NES Emulator on DVDR disk so it must be okay for that media.

Good luck to you! Enjoy your machine!
