Hola, hope all is well out in xbox land. I just got my machine today and am loving it.....and hating it. Actually, just a little frustrated. I thought I would try taking baby steps and I think I just started going into too many directions. The first thing I did was backed up a game. No problem. Then I backed up two DVD's, again no problem. It was when I thought I would be able to play the dvd that were backed up where I received no joy. I am getting the distinct feeling that I cannot play backed up DVD's at all. I looked for some posts on other forums, but all people were talking about was ripping to DiVX and that isn't what I was looking for. I am sure I will have a ton of questions as I continue seeing what this thing can do, and what I can't! Thanks! _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

You can play backed up dvds by playing the VOB files, but there's no real way to play a backed up DVD properly off the hard drive. The latest version of Xbox Media Center comes a bit closer to it, but still doesn't support menus etc.
DivX / XviD is a good alternative if you have the patience to convert, but you lose quality to a certain extent. The best thing to do with backed up DVD is FTP them back to your PC, and burn them if you have a DVD Burner.
Sorry if this info doesn't really help out a lot, but it's about the best I can think of...
