Post subject: Dialup connection shareing w/xbox

I was wondering if any networking gurus would know what I need to set my PC's and my Xbox to to be able to share my PCs dial up connection.

I am running Windows XP Pro
Have a router
and of course an Xbox

My PCs current IP is: 192.168.1.4
My Xbox is: 192.168.1.3
The Xbox Default gateway is set to : 192.168.1.4

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the link RIP1982. I tells me how to manually set up the shareing for the host computer but not how to manually configure it for the clients. So at the moment I have the dialup connection shared and I have set my UX IP settings to static.

Heres what I have now:
Host PC : 192.168.0.1
Xbox: 192.168.1.3
Xbox gateway:192.168.0.1

When I set it to automatic it seemed like it would get a little further then tell me it cant connect (it would give me the same error message)

Am I right here?
should I change anything on my router?

Right now Im asking myself "What the HQ do to help me get back on the right track?"

1) if you follow that tutorial to the letter it should work...its the same tutorial XBC uses to tell users how to setup a network to allow the xbox internet access. I may add ive never setup a network to use dial up internet...but aslong as your connected to the internet you should have some kind of connecton.

2) i have had the most luck with letting the DHCP auto assign the IPs...but if static works better for you then do it.

im not sure what your saying/talking about here.

4) for all the networks ive setup the router usually assumes 192.168.0.1 and all the connected devices assume anything after 192.168.0.1 (dependin on what router some people have the netwrk ip may differ).

example of my setup:

router: 192.168.0.1

PC: 192.168.0.2

server: 192.168.0.3

laptop: 192.168.0.4

xbox: 192.168.0.8

Crap I give up!

A few years ago I was able to share a dialup connection between 2 XP pro PCs using a hub. Maybe I cant share dialup now cause the xbox isnt an XP pc. Bah!

Reason why I wanted to do it is cause UX lets you download gamesaves, updates, skins directly to the Xbox, making it even easier than before. Just convenience.
