Crying or Very sad Okay, I purchased an xbox from GameOnyx.com, had them customize it with a clear case, Clear Jewel, LED Controller Ports and LED fan. Xbox looks great so I thought I'd softmod it. I read everything I could get my hands on to softmod my xbox with 007 AUF. I used SID (softmod Installer Delux) and everything was looking fine. The box booted to Evolution X dashboard and everything. I backed up my hard drive (to the xbox only...not my PC), then popped in the Xbox-HQ Auto Installer Delux 1.01 DVD and Installed the updated Evolution X dashboard and ALL the Applications. Afterwards, I turned off my console so I can get some other work done around the house. When I came back and powered it on, all I got was the xbox needs service... contact Microsoft error.

My guess is that it can't find the dashboard. Can anything be done to restore my xbox? I just ordered a spiderchip from modchipstore.com. Can I use the chip to restore the current hard drive or will I have to get an unlocked drive? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using a V. 1.0 motherboard w/Western Digital Hard Drive (stock drive).

The hard mod should fix anything you f*ed up. but definitly try sticking the game into the xbox before it loads a dash. i messed one up and it would still play retail games so i did it again and it turned out fine. If you use autoinstaller make sure it installes the new dash in e: - when you softmod it, it changes the bios to look for the dash on e:\dashboard or something like that. i would reccomend ftp'ing updates with a softmod though. the hardmod will be a cakewalk though.

Thanks for the quick replies. I put 007 AUF in the xbox and booted w/the game inside, but I still get "Your Xbox requires service...." I guess I'll have to wait til my mod chip shows up to fix my mistake.

You guys helped me figure out where my screw-up was. I backed up everything to C: I also installed the dashboards to C:. So, there's no dashboard in E: for it to load. First softmod was a failure... next time should be better (I hope).
