derblack31 on xbox-scene, stated he uses dental floss to remove the jewel. I thought it was silly until I tried it & it work like a charm. Most of you prob know, but there is a 1/2" gap around the jewel with no glue. Just get the floss in that area & start flossing, the jewel will fall right out. I didnt want to mention another site but didnt want anyone to think I stole this idea. It has made a tedious task much easier on me & my wallet. I have already had to replace 2 customers jewels I cracked, luckily I have blanks & they were understanding.
Now that I think of it some have a foam tape & some have the goo, this may not be as easily done with the goo....
edit- I just did one with the goo. You have to roll the floss around a screwdriver or something & just pull the floss under the jewel..pops right out! and you dont even have to remove the metal sheilding! _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

Im thinking a thin fishing line may work even better, but I dont have any to try with so I will stick to the floss. I think the mint flavored adds a little scent to the box
I have gotten 7 off flawlessly with the floss. the best part is that it doesnt leave any glue to clean up on the case! _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

Is there a better way to get that nasty ass glue off the jewel? Ive never had to take it off the case but its hell to get that stuff off without me rubbing a few layers of skin off my thumbs. _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

I've always used the blow dryer method to remove my jewels, but will try the floss. As far as the glue, I have never had any on the case either. But to remove from the jewel I put the jewel in the freezer for a few hours and then I just peel it right off. It also peels off some silver paint too.
Where the freezer didn't work I used Oven Cleaner

The foam ones stay half on the case & half on the jewel. I just soaked them all in goo gone for an hour & the goo and foam falls right off. It also removes the paint at the same time. I put wax in the back of the logo so the 'xbox' chrome didnt get pitted up like I did to the last one.
Only 2 came out crystal clear & a bunch look foggy on the back. I sanded with 220 then 400 grit paper. What will get it clear, wet sand paper or polish?
One jewel still has all the paint! it was the only one like it I have seen. It has a silver rectangle around the back where the XBOX is & seems to have a plastic coating on the back...any ideas how to clear this type? _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

You'll find clearing the stock jewel is a hit and/or miss type of experience. A lot of mine come out to be cloudy too. I have had a few that three seconds of gasoline on it and the paint flaked off on its own! Othes, I rub as hard as I can with paint thinner, gas, acetone, and skunk pee.....okay, no skunk pee... and I can't get the shit off!!
I got one of those silver ones too, just the other day. When I peeled the gunk off after being in the freezer the silver stuck to the gunk and came right off. This particular jewel came crystal clear.

I’ve done this with 2 jewels so far and get good results when it comes to sanding.
400 should be fine since you have it (I used 420) wet the sand paper and wet sand it. First while pressing down then with a second clean (still wet) piece.
Here is where the drimmel comes in hand. Grab your polishing compound and the cotton bit. My polishing compound looked kinda like hard clay; I put a few drops on the top of the container and let it sit for a sec. I then took out the drimmel and the extension bit (it slows down the RPM some) and put it on the lowest setting.
Run the cotton bit on the polish (it could get real messy) till the bit looks like it’s covered in a solid red mass. (My polish was red)
Now take your Jewel and get that wet, have a few drops of water sitting on it too. Wetness is key, lots of lubrication is key otherwise you will end up undoing your work.
When running the bit over the back of the jewel do it in a light circular motion, don’t keep it in one place for too long or it will burn the jewel (If you do that I can fix that too).
You know you arte getting the job done right if you see the water on your jewel start to turn reddish and a red paste is on your jewel. It looks like you screwed it up but its fine. Get the whole thing done and while its still got the polish on it, wipe it off with a dry cloth or napkin (imagine buffing out scratches on your car)
Then just repeat the process (drimmel part) one more time and you should be in good shape.
I’ve provided a before and after pic of After I wet sanded it and after I polished it...
Ill get the pics up as soon as IE stops returning errors every time I try to attach them.
