Hi, I am a noob when it comes to softmodding, but have chip modded quite a few and am very familiar with all the associated dashboards and such. My question is after you softmod and the original msdash gets replaced by the evox dash do you have to run the splinter cell dvd everytime you boot your xbox and run the the linux savegame in order to boot to the evox dash ?? Or does it just automatically boot to the evox dash when you turn on the xbox ?? I am also guessing that you can ftp into the xbox when the evox dash is loaded ??

It depends on the softmod really, some have it as gamesave activated, but most real softmods, just install hacked fonts, that will load any file you wish, which then load the dashboard, and it works just like a normal chipped box. Well not as easy, but almost. _________________

The delux softmod that DJB put together runs like sjohn says and works very well. It replaces the standard dashboard but if you follow the directions you can retain it like the hardmods do.
Basically as part of the softmod, the first thing you do is make sure you have the current MS Dashboard (5960 or something like that) Then run the exploite and choose the option to backup the c: drive to a Backup directory on E. Then you fully execute the softmod. With the original dashboard on the E drive, the delux exploite has an option to "patch" the dash and move it back to C where EvoX will give you the "boot to MS Dashboard" you are familiar with. Then the thing looks pretty much like every other moded xbox you've likely seen before.
We have two moded xboxes in our home, and the only giveaway that one is a chip and one is a softmod is the "microsoft" logo at the bottom of the screen upon boot. And i'm pretty sure you can change that too...

No sadly with a real softmod you can't, this is only available to replaced bioses, in a softmod it has to boot into the retail bios, try to load the MS Dash, then get exploited, to load the hacked bios or memory patcher, whichever the case may be. So no way to change the boot logo on a softmod. _________________
