I am having issues starting up the xbox after i remove the clock capacitor. After i tsop the board everything is working normal, then when i go to remove the clock capacitor, the xbox wont even power up after. I am choosing to desolder the capacitor for removal. I have now wrecked 3 xboxes this week, just trying to remove that thing. Any ideas would be great. Thank you

I've never done this myself but I've seen the various (some very good) YT video tutorials and it looks simple.

Have you tried re-soldering the capacitor back into place? That would tell you if the removal of the capacitor was the problem. It should work; if it does then it is something else causing the problem, if it doesn't then it indicates some repeated mistake was made during the de-soldering and has damaged the board or some other component.

If I was doing it I'd simply snip the capacitor's legs; no risk of heat damage to adjacent components or the PCB and no disk of rogue solder droplets bridging traces elsewhere on the board.

The latter is the only thing I can think of in your case that might be causing the problem. So unless you've misidentified the capacitor or something as fundamental as that what else could it be?

Having said that..........BIOS are not my thing but there is some niggling memory I have that some may try to check the time before booting and maybe that could be involved. This is a wild, uneducated guess so I am very likely way off the mark.

But it does seem odd that you've had the same problem with three Xboxes. To repeat the same mistake three times whilst de-soldering seems most unlikely, ergo it must be something else.

See SCARFACE's reply below - it would still be a big coincidence if all three were v1.6 but that is more likely than anything else.

Agreed too. His YT clock capacitor removal guide was the primary one I was referring to in my first post.
