Hey, newb here, getting close to heaving my softmodded box out the window. I'm trying to upgrade the HDD with a Seagate Barracuda st3200822a 200gb drive. As I've been utterly unable to figure out FTP (FLashFxp loops through the cannot connect error indefintely via my crossover cable) I've been trying CHIMP from the LUD disc. First, no joy because I only had a 3rd pty controller. That solved, I've been trying to get a working clone for the past day without success. Really REALLY hoping someone can give me a hand step by step. SO...here's the problem:
I've been through at least a half-dozen tutorials (all seem to be based on the same original article, with minor variations). My box is an old....OLD Xbox, so not the 1.6. I get the molex splitter installed, the jumper OFF the new drive (seems that's what the Seagate uses for 'Slave'. I start CHIMP from the LUD disc, and make the switch before "STARTING CHIMP" appears. AT this point there are some messages about not being able to make some partitions(?), then press enter to start CHIMP.
CHIMP starts fine, and recognizes both drives. THe new drive reports in the security check that security is NOT SUPPORTED...I keep going because no tutorial has ever mentioned that as a problem. Anyhoo, I star the clone master to slave, byte-for-byte, and the process finishes in about 13 minutes, kicking me back to the menu. I select "Lock Slave", choose "From Motherboard" and let it go. After that, I select "Shutdown", put the jumper on the farthest pair from the power connection (should be Master), replace the IDE to the DVD, swap the IDE from the old HDD, reboot aaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnd "YOUR XBOX NEEDS TO BE SERVICED....". The end.
So! What the hell? It seems no one else is having trouble with CHIMP...what am I doing wrong here? Is the HDD security the problem, and if so, what drive would be a better choice (got this one from that online master list of drives people have tried, and with what success). Failing this, anyone know where it's still possible to get a solderless chip and adapter (and would that make a difference if the security is the problem?)? THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!![/b]

Hey SPPV can AutoBuilder build a HDD without needing an EEPROM file so it doesn't get locked? _________________

Yep dont have to lock the drive if you dont want to. If using a chip you would want to use my V3 release as it properly sets up the C and E for a chip/TSOP XBOX. The rest are for softmod.

Autowhatnow? Please excuse the total ignorance, but, you know, NOOB and all...did a quick google and found a reference at IsoZone, but no real description, and all tutorial vids seem to be removed. What does it do, where can I get it, and does that mean all is not lost for this particular HDD? ISOZONE says v3 3gb, is that right too (looks like a bunch of emulators and roms included?)
Side-note, so SO thankful for the response! I was worried the original Xbox scene was so dead I'd never see a response.
EDIT
Okay, think I found the reference here, but the files link back to ISOZone, and have not downloaded completely any of the half dozen times I've tried. I'll try again tomorrow and then with any luck, hopefully try it out.
EDIT AGAIN
Well, crap, every time I try to grab the first part from IsoZone it runs for a bit, the the DL dies. Google is no help, Is there anywhere the file is mirrored? Thanks!!!!!!!!
